I started playing on the Gehn shard early last month (December), at which point everything was working just fine. I went away for a few weeks and then tried to play again around the start of this month (January), only to be greeted with a message stating that "The Gehn Shard is currently down ...

Make sure your password is less than 16 characters. The Uru network protocol doesn't support passwords longer than 16 characters (even though the forum will let you set whatever password you want).
