I really like the saturation idea, but maybe it could be pushed even further by using a depth of field effect on the transition? As the age loads, the blur could become sharper, brighter and more colourful before blending with the rendered version of the age as the avatar links in. The post ...

The backwards rotations are mainly because I'm taking the head rotation directly from the rift SDK and applying them to the engine camera. If I want to alter the yaw and pitch directly I have to break down the quaternion that the rift gives me into yaw, pitch and roll then I can flip the backwards ...
