Re: Happy new year writers!

Also won't 2023 be the 20th anniversary of Uru?
I seem to remember playing it first in 2003.
Correct. Following the beta(s) Uru's Prologue first came online in mid-november 2003.
Also the 30th anniversary of Myst. Which feels super weird for me, as it feels Myst is much older than Uru. Like Myst ...

Happy new year writers!

Hey everyone around the world,, happy 2023! :)

Things seem slow around here lately, I haven't been here myself in months... :?

What's the latest news?

Me? I'm working on something special for Mysterium... :D (which I might be able to attend in person for the first time, weeee)

Re: Windows 7

Win 7 users are still around. They are a very small minority at this point. According to the latest Steam Hardware Survey , Win 7 users represents *less than 3%* of all users. (we almost have more Mac OS users than win 7 users at this point  )

Myself I just finally switched to Win 10 a couple ...

Re: Know of any Ages using Bump/Normal Mapping?

Plasma's normalmapping is fairly bad. The light is still per-vertex, and even then the normapping effect seems to have weird orientation...
Yup. Which I found frustrating at the time because Uru was released in 2003, the year when other big games started using it to great effect.. (Half Life 2 ...

Re: Lost the September sparkly after a crash

I wish I had some sort of answer for you, but I'm afraid I don't know a thing on this matter. :(
Anyone else?

Re: The Descent

Fun fact : at ~10x6 miles the Cavern has a surface larger than the whole island of Manhattan..

Parts of this path are straight lines several miles long. Heck, most of the 'tiny' straight stretches are at least 1 mile long. As much as I ...

Re: Korman 0.12 Released

It took me a while to convert to 2.9 for my non Uru related works, but I really like it now. (and it's quite unpleasant constantly switching from one to another...) 2.79 feel really old in many ways, and lack some really important features.. (what I miss most in 2.79 is the ability to edit several ...

Re: The Descent

Aitrus' map took artistic license in many ways.
I know, but it's painfull when it's the only map we can work with.

Cavern was 10 miles by 6 miles
Ouch, that's around twice bigger than what I have. Anyone fancy working on an Age 41.6 miles long?

I would say doing anything beyond 20 000 ...

The Descent

Doobes' update on his blog ( here ) about the Descent got me thinking. And I am trying to estimate the dimensions of the full Descent, just to see how impossibly big this whole thing would be in Uru.
Which got me diging into my archives..

A while ago (late 2008 according to the files date) I did a ...

Re: Myst Online Intangible Assets

Looking at these again it is so tempting to work on some of those Ages, especially those that only exists as concept art and maps... Especially Khata island and Venalem. Those have just enough material to start throwing together a few 3D mock ups. Not that it would be reasonnable to do so... :? (not ...
