You have a cool style of drawing, brings across a delicious Mystesque appeal that I find a lot of related art lacks, imho!

My opinion, from a level design point of view: Too much space for too few people and objects, yet it's a very small space for a 100% free roaming area.

Perhaps the star is only partially in the same phase of existence as the core, allowing it's radiating light and heat to penetrate to a degree. This would make for an intermittent and surreal show of light and heat.
