Re: Myst Online Intangible Assets
The Dahtamay design docs feel the most interesting cause of how different Uru (or Parable as it was in 2000) was conceived. I mean we would have had NPCs (perhaps maybe played by Cyan staff?), an economy with currency, rankings, upgradable vehicles etc. Which is all interesting considering how back ...

Re: Cyan's texture gallery
Have to admit my favourite discovery in all of this is textures that hint at the MUDPIE-era Teledahn, which featured giant mushrooms that would appear on the horizon and factory equipment that we never saw. I guess also that the age would have linked to D'ni and perhaps the Descent. Anyone here ...

Re: Cyan's texture gallery
Sarpedon, the online image gallery has downscaled textures. Cloning the repository with Git is harder but you'll get the original (higher res) images, sorted by Age :)
Any instructions online on how to use GitHub to get the original textures?
Are you talking about retexturing Todelmer to turn it ...

Re: Cyan's texture gallery
So even at a slight increase in resolution (from 225x450 to 450x900), there are improvements to overall detail. I find with certain textures (some stone or cloth textures), you get the smudging effect.

Re: Cyan's texture gallery
God just when I'm think I'm out, Cyan pulls me back in! Cyan's textures were actually one of my favourite things about Uru.
The third announcement was that Cyan released a set of images for textures used in Uru and Myst, available to be used in fan contributed content. The number of files was ...

Re: Nexus demo, DiRT's Descent, and Hector's Cove !
Agreed. DiRT was made in the weird era where "tank" steering was the norm. Controllers eventually brought more natural third-person steering where the avatar runs in the direction you're pushing the joystick, which is much better.

Re: Nexus demo, DiRT's Descent, and Hector's Cove !
What are the faults you think need addressing?
Well from experience of playing Uru, controls in third person where pretty clunky, particularly as it come into conflict with the camera positioning. Hard to steer the avatar in the direction you wanted. So there is a conflict between having a third ...

Re: Nexus demo, DiRT's Descent, and Hector's Cove !
Anyone know what was suppose to be after the Bug Cave?
Also while the 3rd person camera is not to everyone's liking (it can make maneuvering difficult compared to first person), it really does enhance the scale of the environments, certainly the Bug Cave with the almost oppressive darkness. I ...

Re: Nexus demo, DiRT's Descent, and Hector's Cove !
This is the most fun I've had with Uru in a long, long, long time. Even in an unpolished state (unable to climb up the grating by the sluice gate to advance), this Demo certainly gives you a different feeling that Uru gave. Given its emphasis on more physical exploration, it even gives a different ...

Re: UPlasma development - Play Plasma from the Unity engine
Take the Pod Ages: when they came out, it must have been a fantastic experience, trying to figure out how it worked.
Nope, the Pods were a joke then too. We had players who were certain that there was more there to see and do, but in the end they were (unfortunately) wrong. The primary experience ...
