While I do find it disheartening to have joined the game after the season finale, and having missed all the story, I do find MOUL to be the most unique and most promising MMORPG I've come across. (There is a slight bias since I'm a big fan of Myst anyways.) I am willing to wait for content and story. I see Cyan not just as a software company, but almost as an indie film studio. They are having to design their own sets, hire actors, and write decent stories to explain it all.
With WoW, Blizzard can just release a new land or a new expansion pack and say, "OMG! Some new pseudo-omnipotent being has gotten some rare item and wants to rule the land! Hack and slash to stop him folks! BTW, we've upped the level cap again so you'll have a reason to keep playing. And if that isn't enough, we've made an even more ultra-secret l33t category of epic zeus-like armor with only one item in that category existing in the whole game. Be the first to find it!"
(Special Note: I don't mean to offend, My wife and I both play WoW as well)
With Cyan, they know we expect a lot more and I would hope that they're working diligently to provide us with that for season two. If, however, season 2 comes and looks uber-weak, then they'll have some explaining to do. I want depth and quality over quantity. I'm willing to excuse them for some of the Ages in season 1 if only because it's year one (again) for them.

This is true, and that's why I think Cyan would love to focus its efforts on high-quality content closely tied to the story, and rely on us for other less critical content. Judging by the response to the stained-glass contest, users would be happy just to see their contribution show up in the game. I know I would have been thrilled to see my entry win, and that's just a small texture in some hoods.

So I'd be happy if I sent them, say, a completed and textured model of a D'ni room, and they took it, modified it to their needs, and stuck it in the City somewhere without even a thank you. I think (I hope) they would go for it too, which is why I don't agree when someone says we should forget even thinking about a D'Ni Age.

I will be disappointed if Cyan shuts the door on us, but then I would just go create new Ages and hope they know what they're doing.

If it can make you feel any better, I (finally) joined just yesterday -- the day before the week-long server relocation. :) I had enough time to run through Teledan at least. (..and stare at the "Updating" screen for long periods of time, interspersed with a restart now and then, as the program for some reason kept crashing out of itself, while downloading.)
Incidently (and I realise that this is an OT rant, my apologies), am I missing something, or is it not rather pointless to have a neat progress indicator and ETA display, bolted onto the the updating manager, when it only refers to the file currently in transfer and doesn't indicate the number and sizes of remaining files in queue?

heh not to be a downer to some, but personally I doubt anything I could make will be in MOUL. Simply because it pales in comparison to others, but is that going to stop me from trying, No way. Unfortunately most things I want to do can't be done atm or I think at all, but I'm fleshing out other things I can do and learn more about building models and texturing them, plus adding sound, music, animations, puzzles and the like. basicly the stuff that adds to the beauty of an age.

The more I learn the better things will be. I hear people that are more skilled then I say that blender is a pain and hard to learn, but for me its easier then other 3d programs and cheaper. that makes me feel better.

Basicly we are cyans pep squad, if we aren't excited and happy they aren't either. Unfortunately the world isn't controlled by just being excited and happy. Its controlled by money and without it MOUL will fail. thats just the reality of life. If player content can help with very little expense from cyan then great.

The one thing that is mostly on my mind, is that cyan stated that they wanted player content in MOUL, but what exactly are they talking about. Is it ages or simple things that may grow into ages? well I haven't see anything concrete that says we will be able to add a complete age, but I haven't seen anything that says we won't be able to add ages either.

I'll keep doing whatever I'm doing untill cyan says different. because they are the ones that have final say of what goes in the game and how it goes into the game. Just wish it was sooner rather then later  ;)

Most people that are trying or accually have created ages for URU CC know how hard it is getting things just right or even close to right, what we need to do is make others understand how hard it is and how long a process in can be.

The only example I can use(because its the only one I can think of  ). I'll put under the code thing since its just a example of something that most don't understand at all or very well.

Code: Select all
Is when you go to a pharmacy with a new prescription and all of the sudden the staff comes back and tells you the amount. Your like why so much, I'm only suppose to pay this amount. Well the staff says your insurance doesnt pay for that drug and your like well I was told they did by the doctor or some such crazyness.
Basicly most people don't realize what it takes for a pharmacy to do a prescription or care to. All they care about is getting thier prescriptions when they need them. The pharmacy staff have to deal with the insurance company and lazy doctors and thier staff. Also most doctors have no clue what prescriptions are covered under any insurance. Also play phone tag with doctors is another pain.

I could go on and on about what a pharmacy goes through, but I'm sure some get what I mean. Everyone thats building ages needs to educate others of what it takes to create the simplest thing in MOUL or any video game. That video that was being discussed around here may be a good way. kinda ages creation 101. Yea in may scare some, but it may also inform others and curve the naysayers a tad.
