RAD 2 July 2008 Contest

Postby Grogyan » Mon Jun 30, 2008 3:35 am

Welcome one and all to the second RAD contest, which now everyone should be well into developing their Shells.

All information regarding this contest can be found here

For those that don't know too much of the history behind it, this has been a long, long project, which I am glad is still going.
Our very own Aloys has been working with Robert the Rebuilder, Chacal, Dustin (in the beginning), Besharen, J’anim Paedet and more to get it to a stage of readiness to accept content.
If you havn't visited Robert's Shell #111 (coincidentally is the number in New Zealand to call for help :D) your in for a treat, as this was the first ever shell to be incorporated with the city, followed by Paradox's Shell# 201 and Grogyan's Shell #119 last RAD contest to bring the number of shells to 3.
Each of these shells is a little bigger than the Relto island, but more than enough space to put content into.

Even still the city is rather empty, thats where this contest comes in, and Aloys is over joyed that there will be more shells to incorporated into this city.
Anyway this contest revolves around making content for this massive Age, where you can do virtually anything, the plugins are very sophisticated as is the magnificent work of our developers that diligently work on it every day.

Because of the last contest having its ups n downs, its been decided to centralise all information onto the wiki here, while this thread is to discuss, and request help in virtually any form.
If you havn't visited the signup sheet, now is a good time to do so, as it holds a lot of information about what is expected as well as being the score sheet for judging your shells.

This contest starts tomorrow (at least I think so with the time zones to GMT (still havn't quite recovered from the pods puzzle on MOUL)) and we have 11 people signed up to officially take part in this contest, because of this long term project

The contest is split into 2 parts, a first merger or pre contest merger, and a second merger or post contest merger.
1st merger is where by the end of today (bar one person) all the contestants will have submitted their shell, giving time for Aloys to merge the game files into the project
2nd Merger is the post contest merger of game files in a seperate zip file from the pre contest merger.
Reasoning behind this is simple, people have been working on their shell, either recently or for a long while, so having the 2 sets of game files allows the judges to see and score on the improvement throughout the contest

In time both sets of files will be posted here so that you can visit them yourself.

Robert today announced that there is a paging system in place that will help loading times of the Age, as hopefully when its all full of content there will be 340 places to visit, and with 340 shells that is a lot of data, far bigger than any Age Cyan has ever done, will improve on loading times.

In this contest we have
MustardJeep #121
Katreeny #232
PaladinOfKaos #101
Nadnerb #237
Floydman #435
Andy Legate #315
Mystified Explorer #202
Darrigan #109
Tinuviel #309
Marcello #129
DatokerJ #104

Now because we have so many people having a go, and everyone wants to see them all, Robert has highlighted for us the shells in the contest

Though the contest has official shells up for scoring, but you still wish to have your shell incorporated and not be judged, you can do so at anytime you like, for example, I hope to release a new version of my Shell #119 for you all to enjoy, though I have many things to learn

I added a link to this thread on the Wiki page, in case people had questions or comments about the contest.

Is the sign up sheet correct about everyone working on a new shell? I thought Tinuviel was going to submit a shell showing his work to date.

If there really is no one with previous work entering the contest, we won't need to have an initial version of Ahra Pahts for the judges to use as a basis for comparison, right?
Can we rebuild it? Yes, we can - here's how.

Cool, lots of filled shells (or at least there are going to be, I do hope this is a quality-not-quantity thing though :? ). @.@

I have tried for two days to send my shells to Aloys but without result. I have now uploaded my files and I hope that he can download them.
If I am too late. Can you judged my shell without participate in the contest. I hope I am not to late. ;)

mar: Unfortunately, Aloys has had no Internet connection (see this thread).

If you would like feedback on your shell, but don't want to partipicate in the contest, I could put your shell into another version of Ahra Pahts and make it available to the Guild of Maintainers. They could "inspect" your shell and provide feedback on their forums - it has worked very well for Grogyan, Paradox and me.

Just send a PM to me with information on how to download your shell, and I'll make this release. I have to redo the "v0.8D" paging release I made (see this thread) anyway. Plus, I'd love to see what you've done! :)

I received a fresh shell from you Robert. This is the file I will be working on. I have never come to work on the older file. Do I still have to send in the empty shell file?

Nope - you don't need to send me anything!

[Of course, I could use the cube/sphere/cracked earth test shell, if you want me to. ]

Ah darn Robert you just spilled the beans. That shell was all done and finished! Wanted to keep it under my hat for 30 days and bring it in just like that. Some hard work went into that shell ;) ;) lol

My shell has nothing in it at the moment either. I'll start working on it today :)
