GoW Logo

Postby Trylon » Sat May 30, 2009 10:01 am

Yesterdag I was working on some GoW logos, when it dawned upon me that we don't seem to have an official GoW logo.
Ofcourse, we have the stone pen slab from the writers guild which is on top of this forum, but apart form that nothing official.
Most of the logo's currently in use for the GoW by other guilds (e.g. in the GoMe newspaper) are symbols that are GoWésque, but come from individuals.

Some of the logo's I worked on yesterday are below - maybe we could use one or two of them as official logo's or use them to base another one on.
(All the vector version were traced by me from their small bitmap equivalents)

You can download them in a zip file here: Download link to zip file

1) Vector (svg) version of the pen logo currently used in Grogyan's avatar (plus a 512px wide png):
(I don't know where this design originally came from)

2) Vector (svg) version of the logo that is on the tapestry in the Writers Guild Pub (plus a 512px wide png):

3) Vector (svg) version of the pen symbol used on these forums to indicate topics (plus a 512px wide png):

4) A modified version (raster) of the banner on top of the forums (Gow style), primarily intended for use in a corner (included are 400px wide, 200px wide and 100px wide, and GIMP source file)

5) A simpler version of the above stone slab, in the same orientation as in the GoW banner, without text (only 400px version and GIMP source)
(You can get the "Guild of Writers" text from the GIMP source file of the tilted slab - it has a non-visible layer with the text in one straight line)

6) A 256px wide version of the red book avatar I'm using now (sorry, no vector version of this one yet)

Ideas, preferences, or comments please...

My personal favourites are nrs 2 (from the GoW Pub in uru) and 4. (The yellow (gold) color in nr 2 seems a bit out of place to me though).

P.S.
I couldn't quite figure out the origin of nr 1 - the logo in Grogyan's avatar. I vaguely remember it being a default avatar when the GoW began, but I could be mistaken.

The default avatar (Grogyan's avatar) was taken from the D'niDings font set created (I believe) by BladeLakem.

The Avatar used by Grogyan appears on the cover of the personal journal in TPoTS. Personally I really like that one though I can see it being a bit to complicated.

There is also the "D'ni Guilds" logo that was on the back of the TShirt in MOUL. Deledrius made .svg versions of all of those logos a while back... http://forum.guildofwriters.com/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=1708&p=19490#p19458

Hehe, that's perfect. What could be better for a guild devoted to the complicated process of age creation. I think really, at the moment anything with an ink pen on it is associated with us.

Trylon if you want a straight answer LOL # 2 looks better. It is clear and well defined. The first one is too busy and the #3 looks like it is winking.

I agree that nr 2 is best.
It's also a logo straight from the Guild of Writers in D'ni, and in a previous discussion (no link at the moment, sorry) we decided to go with the logo of the D'ni Guild of Writers.
(Only a few days ago did I figure out that we never definitively settled on a variation of it, or used it)

I like number one, as it looks Ducknee ish.

I saw it before and I thought it looked pretty good as a logo, so I stuck it to my avatar pic :D

I've always liked the avatar Grogyan, so I agree it would be a good choice. I'll tell you tho', I like Trylon's red book avatar (item 6, everyone) equally as well.
Maybe for a few copper coins each of you could sell some rights of use and then hold a vote between the two entries. 8-)
