Help! Uru won't update age

Different but same...Using XP...Is there a way to have two installations of URU:CC on the same drive? One for toying with and the other 'pristine'. I've tried to install a 'pristine' version, but the loader from the CD recognizes that a version is already there...Without messing up what I've already accomplished, do I need to re-name the original installation file something else and then try to load the 'pristine' version?

yes... rename the root folder of your existing installation to:

".../Uru - Ages Beyond Myst_old"

... and you will then be able to make a fresh "pristine" installation

(you will have to remake the Shortcut icon for your "old" installation)

This method works, but when you go to install the second copy of Uru, the installer will ask you if you want to uninstall, just go ahead and let it "uninstall", it doesn't really do anything.

yes... I forgot about the "uninstall" ... be SURE you rename the "old" installation BEFORE you do the new ( "pristine") installation.

as zib says ... it will ask you to "uninstall" ... however, because you have renamed the root folder, it will NOT unintsall your original installation (because it has the "wrong" name now ... )

this is not an "efficient" way to export your Age.

You will find it MUCH quicker to export the PyPrp files DIRECTLY to the .dat folder (not to somewhere else and then copy/replace).

Personally I always use that deferred method, both because I don't want the texture cache and the log files cluttering up my dat folder and paradoxally for expediency reasons, seeing as I don't have to click my way through the path to the Uru installation every time I export - I export to an "export" folder in the project directory and let a batch file copy the age files to their Uru home and delete the .sav file in one fell swoop.

EDIT: Oh.. and everybody appear to make fun of my "choice of words" *sob*... :)

as I don't have to click my way through the path to the Uru installation every time I export -

you don't ... after you make the first export, the export file path is "stored" in the dropdown box in Blender ...

for all subsequent exports you just click it and select your dat folder´s path ... one click

Thanks all...it worked renaming the root folder and then uninstalling and reinstall...Kudos to all that helped me through this...

Zib, have you tried examining your PRP files using PageEditor or some other PRP editor, to see if the problem is between Blender and the files or between the files and Uru?

Chris, no, I did not try that. Good idea, though.

I have good news and I have bad news.

The good: I got Uru working normally again!

The bad: I have no idea what the problem was, I restored my /dat folder from a backup and it works now
