Cyan owns Uru CC and all of that content. Ubi was just the publisher.
Notice that there were no issues starting up Untìl Uru, getting that content into MOUL, or releasing it on GoG and Steam.
Ubi is out of the picture as far as Uru CC is concerned. (Which is different than Myst V where Ubi owns the game, and Cyan was contracted to build it)

I agree, Cyan owns the URU:CC content. They don't own the [disc] publication. I don't understand why people find it so difficult to understand the distinction. A musician owns the music; not the album that studio/label xyz produced.

Does anybody have the GoG/Steam version of Uru and could post checksums of some files? I would expect it to be exactly, file-by-file, the same as the old one. If yes, obviously there's no point at all distinguishing them... maybe Ubisoft has the copyright on the box or the installer that copied that data to my PC, but when it comes to dealing with the game files, they are out of the picture.

Musicians usually pass their rights to the label, so they don't own the music anymore. However if they publish it themselves, of course they own the music and the album. After all, the album is merely the sum of the music, it does not add considerable creative work to justify a copyright on its own.

So you're arguing just for the sake of arguing at this point. Word to the wise: Stop trolling.

Since people are using music rights as an analogy, let me clarify something:

Publishing rights are different than copyrights. You can own your copyright to your music, but you can sell your publishing rights-- and vice versa.

We really don't know what contract Cyan had with Ubi, so arguing about it is really sort of useless.

Not trolling. It just seems obvious that some people can't/won't understand the distinction.

I'm pretty sure posting again and again won't change the minds of people who "won't understand the distinction".

As I said... we don't know what contract Cyan Worlds had with Ubisoft. So arguing over who owns what rights is really a waste of time.

True, but from what I read, usually the labels by the full copyright. They couldn't pursue any file sharers otherwise.

We really don't know what contract Cyan had with Ubi, so arguing about it is really sort of useless.
But isn't the publishing on GoG and Steam a proove that Ubi might have publishing rights, but can not have the exclusive copyright? Even without the details of the contract, that would show that Ubi could not pursue anyone for copyright violation, and the forum rules are solely influenced by Cyan's own policy.
