Introduce Yourself

General debates and discussion about the Guild of Writers and Age creation

Hi Im Fezz,

I have played Myst since 1999. I have all the off line versions I think. My first exposure to 3D games was a Win95 UbiSoft game called POD.

I am about 2 months with Blender 2.46 and hope to help out someday where ever I can. I am now looking to get my grey block age into URU somehow so I will be visiting the wiki to see if that tells how to get things started.

Professionally I am an Electrical Engineer (Motor Controls Designer) and spent 25 years in the automotive industry programming machines and robotic systems. So I like the mechanical working power ages the most.

In 1999 I left the auto industry after writing a program that tracks the financial markets. So during the business day I played MOUL while trading the markets.

I hope MORE will begin soon, but not real soon as I have alot to learn about Blender etc. I am happy GoW has this web site and hope in the months ahead I can be a contributing member.

Hi there!

Postby Trevor1017 » Wed Sep 03, 2008 9:45 am

Shorah everyone!

I recently signed up and am interested in becoming a writer. That is to say, learning how to make my own ages and help others with theirs! I know it can be a pretty intensive proccess, but I'm quite eager to learn! :) I was a memeber of the Guild of Mainatiners before, but became facinated with the ability to make my own ages after visiting some of the other user created ages out there.

I am good with computers, although I don't have much skill with programming or modelling, so what would be a good place for me to start?

Thank you all so much for any help!

Trevor

Hi Trevor,

I would suggest clicking on the "Wiki" word.
The red header under the Guild of Writers title.

I am kinda new at this Blender Age creation thing, but I am sure you will get loads of help from this forum.
Or pm me and I will help where ever I can.

Hi Trevor :) great to have you at the Guild of writers!

To start with, you should learn blender (the GoW tutorial just go over age creation related things in blender.)
a good site for learning the basics of blender, is: http://www.gryllus.net/Blender/3D.html (some good video tutorials),
you might also want to check out these tutorials: http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Blender_3D:_Noob_to_Pro
when you think you've got the basics to blender down, feel free to try out the tutorials on the GoW wiki :D

My Goodness, that Blender tutorial site has got to be one of the best I have seen yet.
http://www.gryllus.net/Blender/3D.html
It is done in small video portions with just one topic in mind.
I dont think an individual would be a noob for very long viewing each of those.
No need to make tutorials after seeing that site. Whew!!!

/me thanks you very much :)

Awesome! Thank you so much!

I just downloaded Blender so I'm ready to start the tutorials! Looks like that site explains it very well, so I'm excited to get started! :D

G'day I'm Raider7,
I found Myst and Riven as a boxed set together back in 1997. I have been a Myst fan since then. I missed Uru Live by a few months back in 2004, but played MOUL which was great, I met some great people. I am still learning how to use Blender. I am also a member of some other Myst forums and have met some great people. I am a Full time Mum to our 5 year old Son who also loves playing Uru. The Myst Community is great to be in.

He he, set him loose with Blender, will be better than TV and will keep him occupied for hours, that is unil if you can drag him away and put him to bed.

Seriously though, just playing round with Blender is a lot of fun, and you can go as deep as you want.
The noob to pro book is a good starter, but its a lot easier if you have a project in mind and search the web for answers to any problems you come across, or even ask us here in the forums.

Hey all,
With the news of the upcoming MORE, ive decided to try my hand at the great art ;)
A bit about myself.
Im a first year medical student living in Australia.
Ive finished all the myst games and books apart for the original myst (in the middle of troubleshooting realMYST for vista . . . and tempted to install a partitioned drive with XP just to play the game)
I love lORE, be it myst, or my second job Dungeons and Dragons.
Hope to get to know you all well.

Just Linking In:

I'm very much interested in the whole of Myst and URU...have been since the outbreak in 1997...

I'm working on a storyline that precludes Myst..."Ages Before Myst"...Using the books found in the Hall Of Kings....

I have a few working ideas and sketches that need a few critiques, I'm sure...

I'm not a programmer or artist by any stretch of the imagination...but I can write a good story and have a good vision as to what I am trying to accomplish.....
