It's a start. A data server has been planned since Cyan announced its OS road map.
A futile effort, IMHO, to hang on to its IP in the naive hope of a future revival of a commercial MOUL.
First thing an open-source shard will do is start its own data server so it is free of Cyan's micro-managing.

Copyright. Cyan does not have license to use them. They can get it from some authors no doubt, though. As I said elsewhere, if we get the MOUL source and a functioning client/server, I'll make a Pots->Moul converter. And then Cyan could use from those authors who wish. (Though a number of Ages contain assets from other games, and Cyan will probably not be able to secure those, even with the Age author's permission.)

Cyan probably doesn't own the rights to the Crowthistle and Myst V Ages.

I don't know about that. Concidering that "Noloben" was being shown before the shutdown of MOUL I would think that when Cyan got there rights back it included the Myst 5 content. It's just a thought though, time will tell.

I have to agree with kahinj here. When the rights reverted back to Cyan 2 years ago, that was when the deal with Ubi was supposed to end. I would think that the rights to Myst 5 ages also went with.
