Question regarding the location of the place in D'ni.

Currently Canon (Has held by RAWA and Cyan) details that we're not allowed to make any pre-existing place within D'ni. (Neighborhoods are fine, as there would be a lot of them. Parts of districts are okay cause it covers a small portion of a large area) Now...what about a set of tunnel systems off the Great Shaft. Since we know there's alot of them there. Would anyone object to something like that are would it violate the canon rule?

Chloe: I don't think of RAWA's canon rules as rules per se, more like guidelines..
That being said; I think there is certainly enough space in the D'ni underground empire to allow for plenty of unknow locations.. Tunnel systems may be ok as long as they do not connect directly to the Great Shaft and their locations remain vague.. (which is annoying but heh.. those are the rules. I mean guidelines.)

I don't see how that would violate "canon" at all. 10,000 years down there....I'm sure there are a LOT of tunnels, pockets, etc, you name it down there if you think about it.

The only thing I can think of that you'd have to watch for is:

Make sure that your tunnel system does not connect to one of the "Hoods" etc (as RAWA said new places you must link there, not walk there from say a Hood or Ae'Gura).
And the name of the place. Making sure you call it something unique and not a place mentioned in one of the journals.

That's the only things I can think of, and man, that throws the books wide open! Technically, you could make a new "Rest Area" in the Descent Shaft if you wanted to. Your own island out on the lake...the possibilities seem almost endless to me (and why I didn't understand why people complained about those guidelines, but hey, that's if you only care about canon! :D )

I still like the idea that each entry (no mater is it one person or a team) will be judging others work.

Lets say there will be 5 contestants/teams. Each entry will have to give opinion on others work by giving places in a form of the list, for example this how juding by by entry 1 might look like:
1st place: Entry 3 (got 4 points)
2nd place: Entry 2 (got 3 point)
3d place: Entry 4 (got 2 points)
4d place: Entry 5 (got 1 point)

Whoever will get more point wins (in case of draw: the number of "1st places" given will be taken into account, in case of another draw number of "2nd places" etc.)

is it OK if my submission is part of another age? I have a D'ni age I'm working on, but it would only be available as a "reward" for beating another age. (e.g you beat the puzzle, and a door opens, and in the room is the book to the D'ni area). If so, this is just the motivation I need to get going on my ages!

Do you mean a location in the Cavern, or...?

Ages Written by the D'ni aren't part of this contest (Whereas the Age (D'ni/Earth), written by Ri'neref, of the Ronay, is)

However, the location in D'ni is the one being judged, and, while it probably shouldn't, in reality, (this tends to be the case in the Real World), easier to check stuff will be placed slighty higher, when the judging is close. =P (note, this is note policy of judging, its just the way the world tends to work, nor is this noting anything about the jury/judges)

EDIT However, if the D'ni location is a different .age file... it shouldn't be /too/ difficult to test, and this shouldn't cause troubles. =P However, I don't know about the judges, but, I'd probably object to having to go through an entire Age to get to the thing I need to judge. =P

ah, sorry I was a bit cryptic. It is a location in D'ni, not an age written by them. I suppose I could release just the d'ni location without the other ages, but I wouldn't want it put on UAM. (If possible I eventually plan to make it like Chloe's hood office, where you can only get to it through another age, but for the sake of this contest, that can wait.)

You don't actually have to /release/ them seperately, even. =) there's the ulmlinkbook stuff, for offline ki, etc, which can make it fairly easy to get there, if I understand it correctly. but, as i understand it, it'd probably be preferable to have different .age (etc), but it should be possible to just do it via a spawnpoint, but, not all of the people who are volunteering for the jury, will be using the offlineki (they have the know-how for custom other stuff). =P Don't worry too much about it going on the UAM, talk to dustin and old wolle about that. >.>
