Introduce Yourself

General debates and discussion about the Guild of Writers and Age creation

Hello,
My name is Nalates. I started with the original Uru Live. I ran down and bought the game when I saw a TV ad for it. Then I found out there was an online part. I made it in during the Great Invitation Debacle. I was hooked. I joined UO early on and was always on the verge of being banded for posting things like 'how to back up the game' and read logs for troubleshooting. One JUST did NOT do those things on UO. That pushed me to COBBS. There several people were hacking the game and building the Blender tools and game control software to turn features on and off. I helped some with cracking the game and wrote an Uru Hacking manual (way out of date now and off line). With the loss of the COBBS database that forum was lost. Thankfully the knowledge gained in that time was retained by several participants.

Somewhere in the process I got interested in mapping the ages. When KI coordinates came on I was even more interested. There were no standards for maps or measuring. Futographer and some others founded the GoC and I built the Uru Maps Tech Data site to store the standards and information we learned about coordinates and distances. The site is still running. :D

Now that we are wondering when and if there will be a Second Season of Uru I see more people interested in writing ages. If there is no Second Season then I suspect the community will again crack the ages and develop some type of server to run community written ages. The end is after all unwritten...

Jishin – GoMA posted at the GOC forum there was to be a meeting 1/31/08 in Kirel at 2 and 9 Cavern time. That got me interested today and I found this site as I looked to see what the community was up to.

Welcome, Nalates.
I've enjoyed your posts on UO for a long time.
GoC maps are beautiful.

Shorah
Where to start? I have been a Myst fan since the early 90's. There were no other games like it at the time, a lone traveler in a strange unknown world I liken it to what early explorers must have felt landing in a new place for the first time. For me the moment I linked to Myst Island I was hooked I played all the Myst games so when MOUL was finally released to the public I signed up for a year membership...no question asked. I never played a online game before but I trusted the franchise which never disappointed me. Over the past few month I have come to love this community and the wonderful new worlds Cyan created for us. Between episodes I kept my self busy help moderating my hoods forum (http://myssterrie.createforum.net) creating art for the Bahro Contact Committee, making Marker Sculptures, created cover art for the Archiver and the Laki' ahn warrior mask project for the Subterranean Restoration. With all the time and work I put into URU I can't say MOUL being canceled by game tap is disappointing, honestly I am heart broken. Like many others I am now faced with a difficult choice. Just let URU die..or..find a way to make a home. I think Age creation is the answer for many of us who don’t want URU to die, I don't know what I can offer to the GOW but I am willing to learn. My background is graphic arts/fine art and I have been sketching out a few ideas for an Island Garden age. I am determined to learn blender when real life isn't knocking at my door, but I suspect I will need lots of help. I would love to contribute someway to GOW efforts...and make a new home.

Shorah b'shehm'tee everyone.

I am known as Kellinar and I happened to be in UO when Greydragon announced the bad news. I just signed up to GoW and would like to contribute in any way I can. I have little to no skills compared to all the Intro predecessors on this thread, but I am most willing to learn anything to help build an Age. I've read a lot of reference to "blender", so I will be checking that out shortly. Even though I would like to make a clamour to keep MOUL accessible, I feel I need to be more realistic and help create an Age where we can all meet and chat - at least for starters before the inevitable comes.

Please excuse my ignorance since I have only been checking out various forums, even chatting for the first time in only a few months. I'm a total noob in just about everything. Regarding Myst, I bought the game when it first came out and have waited impatiently for every sequel since. I managed to get on Prologue, but sadly had to leave because I was on dial up. I never made it past the Ferry Terminal - lol. I finally got satellite and signed up through GT last October and now this.

My greatest strength that I can think of is doing artwork. Even though I have not done it on the computer, I would love to render actual computer artwork. Please feel free to talk to me IC - my number is KI# 13030878.
Beware - I am an absolute total noob, so use small words...

Shorah! I've been an Uru-ite since the time of Mudpie, when I stumbled upon the old old DRC site and for half a second I almost thought the cavern might have been real, ha! :D

I was hooked from that moment till now. I've been a member of The Great Tree for the last few years. Sad of course about the recent closure but I came across the Promo video and it lifted my spirits in relation to Uru for the first time since I heard. Not sure how or if I will be able to help. I've had minimal experience with blender in the past but I fear I have forgetten it all in the interim and won't have time to pick it up too much in the coming months. I'm a writer by nature, in the traditional sense so I supose if anyone wants some help in that area I will be only too happy to oblige. In the meantime I think I might head over to the maintainers and introduce myself there as well.

Shorah Guild of Writers,

Real name is Ken but you will usually see me in Myst related matters as Toby or Tobyas (people always take Tobias before I can). I have been a casual fan of the Myst series for a while, started playing MO:UL just before the last episode. Never bothered to register here because I thought I had more to offer the Cartographers than the Writers. Then again, the roles of the various guilds are different in my mind than in how they have panned out. I always though of the GoC doing the job of concept art working in conjunction with the Writers. That is, making the map before the age instead of after. But that is besides the point.

Now, with the end of MOUL it is probably time to move on and the GoW seems to be the place to do it.

Hiya Itiseye Mee Szark. :) Myst fan since way back at the begining. The wife and I worked through Myst and Riven without walkthroughs, now thats bonding. I have dabbled with other games but I am not "mainstream". Deeper the better for me and the Miller bros and Co are certainly that.

I would like to say that even before I started (12 Nov 2007) MOUL I have been watching and reading this forum. I never realised that you don't have know computer code etc to make ages. Artists, Musicians and sound effects ( now with your plug-in) are also needed. This got me thinking of what I could contribute, and I am still thinking. Sound effects interest me. Wouldn't have a clue where to start. I am assuming I would need to buy some sound recording equipment, not cheap stuff either. Software for to sort sound out for ages.

One question before I start on another journey, is Complete Chronicals Vista compatable. I am thinking of buying another PC or Laptop just for testing ages and what not, also as a backup computer. Laptop would be better for when I am collecting sounds. Hmmmm Home work to do I am off.
Take care
Szark
