EDIT: The reason I ask is if we enable access through some gates and doors the illusion of being within a building or passage disappears as do the walls.

Yes, missing walls and all that are really annoying. That's why using a new PRP can be usefull sometimes.
And even if you would create a new wall, there are still problems sometimes with the visregions.
