Ok, I'm trying to follow the "Required Software" instructions on the wiki, but the file types (like .msi) aren't recognized. Are there mac-friendly versions of the instructions?

The links in the wiki link directly to Windows versions of the files..
I added a "other versions" section. Not sure that everything exists for Linus. Also you might have to compile yourself.

OK, all goes well for installing Python, the Imaging Library, and PyYAML, but when I get to the Cryptography Toolkit I get this error message:

Code: Select all
pencil:~/Desktop/3D/pycrypto-2.0.1 obiesel$ python setup.py build
running build
running build_py
running build_ext
building 'Crypto.Hash.MD2' extension
Compiling with an SDK that doesn't seem to exist: /Developer/SDKs/MacOSX10.4u.sdk
Please check your Xcode installation
gcc -arch ppc -arch i386 -isysroot /Developer/SDKs/MacOSX10.4u.sdk -fno-strict-aliasing -Wno-long-double -no-cpp-precomp -mno-fused-madd -fno-common -dynamic -DNDEBUG -g -O3 -Isrc/ -I/Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/2.5/include/python2.5 -c src/MD2.c -o build/temp.macosx-10.3-fat-2.5/src/MD2.o
unable to execute gcc: No such file or directory
error: command 'gcc' failed with exit status 1

Is there a way to fix this, or a different place to get the cryptography toolkit? Thanks for all your help.

Edit: Also, I can't find the folder ".blender/scripts".

I seem to recall that directories beginning with a dot are hidden in Linux.

Can I get by without the crypto toolkit? And how do I access the .blender directory if it's hidden?

Hi,

in a console, you can type ls command with the -a option:
Code: Select all
promt> ls -a /Applications/blender-2.45-darwin-8.10.1-i386/Blender.app/Contents/MacOS
.      ..      .blender   blender

and see the .blender directory

to have gcc install XCode from your Mac Os Installation CD

Thanks! What are gcc and Xcode for? I don't have my MacOS installation disks with me. (They're back home...with my Uru disks.)

Edit: Now I see in those error messages where Xcode and gcc came up. Do you know whether it would be possible for someone with access to my installation CDs to send me the appropriate files?

Another question: I tried installing PyPRP anyway, and when I tried to export the test age, after clicking on "Export>PyPRP>All as a full age (.age)" it said there was an error and that I should check the console. How do I get the console to show up?

Wish I could help you Owehn, but I know exactly squat about Macs......except they are expensive.

On a normal PC, running Windows, the Blender Console is a DOS looking window. You move your mouse down to your task bar and click on it, and pop, there it is, and you can see what it says.

Yeah, I remember it showing up when I ran blender on my old machine. Earlier, Paradox said:
Blender runs perfectly well on a Mac. You will need to start it from the terminal if you want to use the plugin and get debug output though.

I think this is what he was talking about. I've tried opening the .blend file from the terminal, but there's still no console showing up.
