GoMa Mesh Repository Program

Postby andylegate » Wed Jan 14, 2009 3:29 pm

The Guild of Maintainers has started a Blender Mesh / Object Repository Program.

The repository contains meshes that are zipped up blend files that are for free use, donated by Age Creators and Modelers. No donation of a mesh is required to download. Download is unlimited. Meshes are free to be used in either your Ages or to simply mess with in Blender.

All meshes have their textures stripped from them to keep file sizes low.

If you're looking for meshes stop on by, or if you like to model and want to advertise some of your work, come on down.

If you model in 3DS Max or Maya and still want to share your work, contact Andy Legate at the GoMa and I'll show you how to export your work so that it can be imported into Blender.

Here's the link:

Great Idea Andy and D'lanor. Cyan used generic models and textures throughout their ages. Since we have a Texture Repository already, a model repository is a good idea for us. It will save greatly on time age creators need to make simple stuff like books, chairs, and architectural models like lamp posts, while keeping a cohesive IC continuity to fan created ages by having a few things popping up from one age to another.

I've got a few models I can strip of their textures and add to the list when I get a chance. (a flat screen monitor, laptop etc) As well as a few other things.

coincidentally i'm working on making a couple of default crates that i'll be using and though i'd share hem when I was done, just didn't know we did have a repository till now.

Ask Trylon for his DuraBook, as its a good model (though I did have to rework it a lot)

Thanks again

The GoW has a Texture Repository? Where?

Tachzusamm set something up a while back. Somehow I never warmed to it since it's not connected to this site. :P

Personally, I'd like to see a more official texture and model repository started for the GoW. The GoMa and GoW can almost be mirrors (if someone chooses to upload their stuff to both places). :)
Currently getting some ink on my hands over at the Guild Of Ink-Makers (PyPRP2).

I completely agree with you Lontahv. I am very glad that the GoMa Mesh Repository Program is up, but I would also like to see something similar done in terms of exchanging hand-made textures between Writers and other age creators. I'd love to see both a mesh repository and a texture repository together.

Perhaps either a photobucket album could be set up with a password or something like that, or should we do something more official such as creating an entire website dedicated to it?

Lon, that must be the worst reason ever for not using a site.
Do you have any valid reason? Useability, performance, reliability, something else?

Personally, the only reason I see why people are not using it is the lack of publicity or visibility. For some reason there is no link from here to there.

Argh!? Why start ANOTHER repository when one already exists? All Tachzusamm's needs is a subdomain, (textures.guildofwriters.com or something) and a LINK to it from here and the main page. (and also skin that matches the forum, wiki, and main page. :P)

Chacal is right, I mean I remember vaguely something about a texture repository being discussed here, but I remember there was some problems or something. I don't remember seeing any announcement about it being up, so yah, some visability would help! :P

We started up the Mesh Repository over at the GoMa simply because:

A) We wanted to help people, and the material is free.
B) We've got plenty of server space and bandwidth to do it with.
C) It was something we could start up right away.

Actually, I wish we had started it up a while ago. I apologize for not really thinking more about it earlier. If we can somehow mirror it over here, yah that would be great. 'Course right now it's a organized mess, hehe. :P But we're working on it.

Yeah, back on topic, this is a great idea Andy. We should have a link from here to both repositories. No need to have everything on the same server. Of course, there is a risk that they could disappear some day, but the same risk applies to the GoW site itself.
