DRayX Please explain MOUL Files

I felt this needed its own thread, since the issue is not being taken care.

DRayX asked how to obtain MOUL files. Seems DRayX obtained the info he was seeking without sharing how it was done.

kaelisebonrai posted some verbage referencing a "torrent search engine" and "mystonline"

Jusme posted a query asking for info thinking this is BitTorrent and not able to use it.

Perhaps like myself there are others interested in this and how it is done.

Well, let's say I wanted to download Gentoo Linux. I would need a torrent client installed, such as utorrent: http://www.utorrent.com/. Then I would go to http://mininova.org and search for "gentoo". Then click on the one I want, then click on "Download this torrent". It should then open up with utorrent, which allows you to start downloading it somewhere.

Well, that might just be because we don't want to encourage the illegal distribution of MOUL files.
Maybe someone contacted him in private with some files or a download, but that's just speculation.
Maybe someone pointed him to a torrent, but that is also speculation.

If you want to illegally obtain MOUL files, you can either try to find a torrent for yourself, or hope that people will contact you privately. Alternatively you could just wait until Cyan's dataserver is up and running and download it from there.

Hello All,
I am a user of Blender now for 4 years. I write Python code etc.
I have my own Myst Ages created and finished as a Series.
I have read with interest this thread and its associated thread regarding Jusme.
I dont see any harm in MOUL files being given.
GameTap no longer funds this,and Cyan is going OpenSource.
I have stayed away from GoW outside of gathering info because of just this thread.
Help to others is what should be provided. Spare me the legal rot please.
I tired to use the utorrent info and did a "myst online" search and just got google pages.
Okay, I understand the attitude of this GoW and I continue not to be a member.
Inform these folks in what they need, I for one have no desire for Minkata etc, so I did not save it.
The point is, if asked for help provide it. Not just the Trylon sticking his nose in attitude.
I hope Jusme and Fezz get the help they are looking for.

Well, I don't really have a problem with it either, partly because you cannot even purchase these files. When folks ask for Myst5 or Crowthistle, though, I point them to where they can buy it. All the same, let's try to avoid the ire of those who disagree.

I tried to post general instructions on how to get legal content on Bittorrent too. I think the mistake you made was searching on Google, when I said you should go to a torrent search engine like Mininova or Isohunt.

Ok, I agree that theoretically there might be no harm in distributing the files, but a bit of respect for the general point of view here would be nice too! I don't see the need for GoW bashing.
EDIT: I was trying to point out that my main issue was with the way I felt that our viewpoint was disrespected. Also added "theoretically", which I meant to imply in the original post, but hadn't actually typed out
Historically (talking about even pre-GoW times) we were always very careful about not actually distributing Cyan's content (which is only a token of respect for Cyan's IP btw), even now that those files will be available from Cyan themselves pretty soon, we will still respect their right to the IP.

I don't see the point of your criticism though, just because we're not publicly posting info on how to get MOUL files, doesn't mean we don't want to help people.
And me just explaining a situation does not constitute putting my nose in attitude!
Just do a request for help, and you'll probably get some PM's

I just find and continue to find GoW difficult at best to deal with, this thread is a perfect example, so I have never posted until now.
Trylon you say,"no harm...",yet you first discuss wanting to obtain illegal copies. Does the word "waffle" come to mind?

Get with Cyan or make those MOUL files available for all. Not some hush hush private closed click information. Only those who have paid for URU or Gametap want the stuff anyhow.
Then I may open the box of tools I have for the community to enjoy. As long as MOUL is not open to all, I will do the same.
It is so sad when gathering information is such a difficult task. GoW change this please, not for me, but give a helping hand.
This thread started as a thread asking for help. If I had the info I would provide it. Please accept my apology to those who do help the MYST community without the self serving attitude I am finding.

I can be a hypocrite too. It must be nice to be able to direct your frustrations at being unable to find some files at a completely unrelated group of people.

"Get with Cyan"? What does that even mean? Cyan will protect their IP. We can't just host their property for download. Doing so would be disrespecting Cyan.

There is no legal way to obtain the files asked for now that they are no longer being distributed by GameTap. You asked for help. People tried to be nice. You're throwing it in their faces. Show some respect.

I was in the process of opening my website and all its tools to this community.
People ask for help and it is held hush hush.
I only see discord and am sorry I took any role in this GoW at all.
You do not need nor want me nor i you.
Enjoy your bickerings this is my last visit and I destroy my login.
Help when it is asked for and you will not get these hate type folks.
I wanted to give and in a big way, this portion of the community is not ready.
A handful of explorers do enjoy my ages as they have been online for a few months before MOUL shut down. I only wanted to bring them forth for all to explore as we wait for OS.
So sad.

I received what I asked for in a congenial and thoughtful manner...Thank you all that PM'd me with the instructions (And several different ones at that)...I'm at a loss that some seem to regard individual help as 'clickish'. Post your desire and I'm sure you will get a response. However...I can see the angst from those not having and wanting but then to chastise those that have and are willing????? Blows me away..........
