Hello everyone,
Its time again to start think about ideas that people would like to do for this next RAD contest, held in March.

I have two, which are worth think about.
Having teams this time of 2(?)
With the theme being doing something creative using subworlds and animations

Thoughts, and ideas welcome and also let me know what you think of those two ideas mentioned above in having both being part of the contest

And this time around, to have each Age to include a small object which you would need to include into the Age for people to find when they come and visit (easter egg hunt (though not actual eggs))

An idea I had for a RAD is the theme of an "Artist Age". By that I mean an Age written by an artist. The DRC mentioned artistic ages they weren't sure how to restore, etc. I believe this concept is one of those Ages. I think it might be interesting to make an Age more like that.

As for the other ideas, I like the idea of having a small team. I don't like the idea of using subworlds/animations, though. They're pretty complex (particularly subworlds) and that might create a barrier to a lot of writers.

The idea of using subworlds an animations came about to really try and promote the use of them more in Ages.

How about an Age of music, your own composed music of course, in a a theatre like the Globe Theatre of London?

I like the music idea. However, any of these feature-promoting RADs should/must also have the ability to have at least one team member (if desired). I can't make music, someone else can't do programming, etc. Before this wasn't an issue because the theme was something like "make a section of Ahra Pahts within these limitations" or "make an Age smaller than a 200 foot cube" etc. If someone couldn't do something, they just left it out and they didn't lose a lot of points. For example, my entry in the last RAD (Bimevi) had no sounds besides the footstep sounds because I can't generate ambient sounds, music, etc.

So I would say either make the theme general (I'd like to see a RAD where you have to make an Age enormous like Minkata), or make the theme specific but allow people to get help if that theme isn't something they can do but they still have a good idea for it.

Wilyham, I think Grogyan pointed out in his post above that this RAD can have more than one team member.

Indeed. However, it seemed they were just ideas out there. I'm just saying that if we have a single-feature-promoting RAD, that team idea is essential. Otherwise you're going to have only a few people doing work on it.

How about something interpretive- for example, over at the jayisgames flash game community, any game can be created for their game design competitions so long as it incorporates the theme word, say, 'grow'. The competitions over there produce a wide variety of games of all genres, that are all tied together by the theme word- so having groups of ages that are basically all the same shouldn't be a problem. The theme word could be expanded to a piece of poetry or whatever. It's a bit like Myst III, in a way- each of those ages could be described in a single word (or symbol, as it were).

That could be a little difficult to judge on, but it is an idea

I am wondering if this next contest is too soon, I mean some are taking part in DAWN, which is suppose to finish this week.

What is everyone's feeling on having another contest so soon after the last one?
Wait another month for people to recoup, if so we would be looking at a start in April, and let March be the rest period?

Also i'd like to hear more ideas of what we could do?

What about your opinions on size, keep this next contest small as well, with the same 200 foot walking space?

My feeling ?

Simple.

I would rather chew my own arm off than enter another contest.

After spending three weeks working my butt off, some of the judges couldn't even be bothered to spend more than two HOURS (in total) looking at ALL the entries, and (some of) the scoring was, well, absolutely laughable. (Some of) the judges showed a total disrespect for the hours of work put in by myself (and some of the other contestants).

My advice to anyone thinking of entering ? Only enter if you do not give a damn about the scoring.

Oh, and don't expect (some of) the judges to give the promised feedback ... we are still waiting for the rest of last contest's feedback from November.

You have been warned ... ;)
