The purpose of the guild of writers is?

I know the leaders don't like to be preached to but honestly I'm noticing a pattern where we've become less about creating our own ages and more about taking others from different games, and I'm honestly wondering.

For sure, the focus of this guild definitely seems to be sliding in the wrong direction.

The purpose of the Guild of Writers is to facilitate age writers and tools related to age development. If a tool that happens to have a sub forum seemingly becomes more popular than most of the Guild, then that does not change the purpose of the Guild; it simply shows the way the wind is blowing/what activities are popular.

Let's take a hint, guys.

At least for the time being there is a limit to material that can be used in this way, so I personally consider the Guild focus should be on creating our own ages but can see no harm in seeing other ways in which age building has been used. The subsequent through traffic will result in some new age builders so given the status quo I see the focus drifting but I can also see it drifting back at some point in the future.

I also like the addition of ages from other places as it allows exploration using flymode I find this helpful in seeing new possibilities for my own ages adding a new dimension and depth to the standard set by Cyan.

Disagree.

The purpose of the Guild is not, and has never been, to create Ages.

Writers create Ages, not the Guild. This is a huge difference that you should understand.

As Hoikas stated perfectly, the purpose of the Guild is "to facilitate age writers and tools related to age development". It hasn't changed since 2004.

The GoW is where Writers come for help, tools, ideas and discussion.

This would not be possible without the accumulated knowledge gathered since 2004 by hackers who decrypted and reverse-engineered Cyan files, mapped the prp structure and made tools such as PyPrp, PrpExplorer, PlasmaShop, libPlasma, PageEditor, Alcugs, ULM, UAM, Drizzle, etc. People such as Almlys, D'lanor, Dustin, Zrax, Hoikas, Paradox, diafero, Trylon, Chloe, Christian Walther, Robert the rebuilder, BAD, Jonnee and numerous others that have vanished. All of this without any help from Cyan.

Our focus has never changed. To say it is "the wrong direction" is to ignore our history.

As a Writer, it is entirely possible for you to only come here to benefit from this knowledge. You can elect to never read the tools forums. In that sense also, our focus has not changed.

And now I get down from my soap box and answer Dakro's original post: not sure if your perception is correct. Sure, we've heard about the hacking side recently, with the controversy about Hex Isle, but look at the Ages being worked on: three team projects including one by Italian members, Ahrkane, Fahets, lots of other Ages just released, interesting research on D'ni architecture, etc. Maybe it's just that Ages don't generate controversy.

To me, It sounds like we have been mixing two kinds of people on the GoW forums;
Writers (Age creators) and Ink-Makers (Coders and Tool Builders)

Should the development of the tools be an entirely different guild than the GoW, which is indeed a guild "dedicated to the writing of Ages"?

To me, this whole situation looks like a conflict between 2 Guilds rather than an civil war in just one.

I think you've really hit on something big there, and I think the GoI (Guild of Ink makers) needs it's own seperate site (or at least separated from the GoW, so that it's actions aren't interpreted as those of the GoW.

Of course I understand it is most likely mixed in to the GoW for simplicy's sake, but as of now, there doesn't seem to be a distinction bettween the two guilds. Perhaps on the Home page of the GoW site, next to "Guild chat", "Forum" etc. there could be a "Guild of Ink makers" button.

I think you misread the posts that actually count in this thread. We facilitate everything regarding age writing, including tool development. There is no need to further fragment the process as it would only make age creation itself more difficult.

I remember now why I gave up talking to walls
