Will 3ds max be supported by this community?

Right now the creation of ages is centered around blender and all the support is towards that program. Once we have a plugin that will work with max 2010 will the developers here support that package? I prefer max and would like to stay with it. And it just makes sence to use it since it was cyan's tool of choice. Many people point to the cost of the package as a deterrent. But the student version is only $150, which I think is reasonable. true its not $0 like blender, but its not $3500 either.

I don't think anyone is going to be
opposed to 3ds Max.
But historically we have been using Blender, all of the documentation and tutorials that have been created have been written for Blender.. So of all the 'historical' people here I don't think there will be much 3ds Max activity.. But everyone is free to join, hopefully the release of the plugin will bring in plenty of new motivated people.

I agree with Aloys. The plugins are just a stepping stone, a way we can get our stuff on MOULa till a new blender plugin is released. Most folks are still going to use Blender.

As it is now, there's no reason to get excited about 3dsm. We have no way of reliably testing ages produced with the Max plugin. Sorry Dustin, but I can't count drizzle due to PotS having a massively different physics implementation, new features in MOUL that do not exist in PotS, and the whole "new bugs can be introduced by conversion" possibility.

Yes, bugs can be introduced by conversion, but as people know from playing the Drizzle converted Moul Ages, they are almost entirely free of Drizzle introduced bugs. Just a few minor things. So yes, you can go ahead and create the prps with 3dsmax and the plugin, then use the Advanced->ManualConversion->Moul->ProcessASingleFile to convert the prps one by one. (If people actually start doing this, I'll make the process easier and more automatic.)

Well put me in the "oppose 3DS Max" category. If I'm shelling out the hundreds to buy 3DS Max, I want to have a paying career behind it. Unless the community can realistically re-work the plugin to work with Blender, I see this as a waste of time. Nice that Cyan is working on getting fans involved, of course.

I think the question is whether or not the GoW will put out plugins for Blender AND 3DSMax, instead of just for Blender.

Why would anyone do this, since we already have a working Max plugin?
At best it could be enhanced or tweaked..

The way I understood the question, he wants to know whether people can ask questions about the plugin here, discuss issues and whatnot - and I'd say the answer is that if people start discussing age creating with 3ds max here, that's perfectly fine. Usually, one does not have to apply at some guild master to get a new topic here. People just go ahead and do it, and if the audience collected here is interested in the topic, great. Like back when I published the Offline KI, people started discussing Drizzle and the Offline KI somewhere in the more general forums till Hoikas wrote a PM to Dustin and me suggesting it'd be a good idea to group that into a new subforum.
However, I doubt the PyPRP hackers will switch to the 3Ds max plugin

I think it's pretty safe to say that if anyone wants to discuss ANY tool for creating fan ages here, then the discussion will take place. I believe some have a misconception that the GoW is going to support only what it wants, which is ridiculous.
The GoW is an open ended group, there is no right or wrong way to do things or to discuss things here. The only limitation is what the trends are on the website at the time. Unfortunately the trend is to use Blender as it is easier to get and there is already tons of discussion on it's use here.
If you want 3D Studio Max discussion here, you may have to build it up yourself.
