I recently tried to create a clean install for URU (to use for the Deep Island shard), and so I put in disk one of URU Complete Chronicles. After it had been installing for about five minutes, this came up:
No matter how many times I try to install it that comes up. the disk is a bit scratched, could it be that it's too scratched to install anymore?
I get that if the CD or DVD has scratches or is dirty (or if my lens on the DVR needs cleaning).
If it has scratches, you have a few things you can try:
Buy a "Scratch CD Cleaner" from like a electronics store (works some times).
or
Lightly spray a clean, lint free soft cloth with furniture polish and gently rub the read side of your CD.
or
Apply a light coat of car wax (like turtle wax) to the read side of the CD, let dry and buff off (using ONLY a lint free soft cloth).
I've had mix results with the comercial scratch cleaners, but I've had wild success with both the furniture polish and car wax, revived some game disks that I was going to toss in the trash.
