Pulling the plug on ULM

Hi all,
I recently realized I still had the old ULM server running on my webserver.
As it's been superseded by UAM and OfflineKI, I'm of a mind to shut it down completely now.

Comments?

Did you check the logfile for usage statistics?
I sure would like to clean up some rather confusing documentation in the wiki ;-)

Would that include the sequence prefix database? I believe it is still used by some, and if you shut it down, it should at least be completely dumped into the wiki page. However that will of course reveal registration information that was so far not publicly visible... alternatively, we could just reserve the whole range of ULM-registered prefixes (I assume they are consecutive?) and mark them as blocked in the wiki, so they are not assigned twice.

From what I can tell from the system logs, no ages have been updated since 2009.
However, as you already suspecte, the sequence prefix registry has been used up until recently.
The range used is currently 10000-10875.

If needed I can get a list of who registered which sequence prefix out of the database.

Okay, so we need some kind of migration plan for the sequence prefixes. I would suggest to make it read-only as soon as possible (linking writers who still want to reserve a prefix to above wiki page), and then we can deal with getting the old data into the page.

Of these 876 prefixes, 160 are currently also registered in the wiki (I hope by the same people... ;-) ). I am not sure what is better: Getting the missing prefixes there too (I feel kind of bad about publishing that data, people might have thought that registering a prefix is private?), or add a note that the whole range 10xxx must not be used for new registrations.

Done.
The ULM homepage now shows a page indicating that the ULM server is offline, and refers to the wiki page for sequence prefix registration.
Also, I updated the "how to get a sequence prefix" wiki page, and removed the ULm reference

Okay, I removed ULM references from a whole lot of more pages, and redirected people to Offline KI and UAM. There are still some references left, but I think I got the most prominent ones.
This should also prevent confusion for new players which do not know the history of all of this ;-)

Good,
do we need to port over the list of prefixes, or should we just keep the 10000-11000 range reserved? Personally I'd opt for keeping the range reserved, as there's a lot of prefixes that never saw the light of day, but were just registered in a block of 5 or 10.

Whoops.
This reminds me that I forgot to officially register a prefix for Relativity.

Currently 9872 is used. So, I hope that's not a problem, and the number is close enough to 10000. :)

(Should I simply edit this prefix into the WIKI page now, or how is the recommended procedure for assigning numbers from now on?)
EDIT: Never mind. I've read the rules now - so I will add it. :?

I added comments and reserved the range - I hope this is clear enough for everybody to not register a new prefix there ;-)

ok

That means I can throw the old ULM database away now, right?
