Looking for public storage space for my textures

Postby Chacal » Mon Apr 05, 2021 12:30 pm

Hello all,
from 2008 to 2015 I was traveling around the world and I collected about 1.2 GB of hi-resolution pictures for the specific purpose of making a texture library for Uru age builders. I have vegetation, rocks, wood, tiles, bamboo, stone walls and floors, etc. I also have a few artifacts: door handles, hinges, stone carvings, etc. I have 1000-year-old wood from Japan (see below). I have attached a few scaled-down (1024) examples.

Most are 3072 x 2304 and were taken from about 1 meter at right angle from the surface.
In many cases, when the surface was large enough, I took a mosaic of 9 pictures arranged like this:
123
456
789

I've always wanted to post them but couldn't find suitable public space.

So I'm looking for FREE public storage where I could upload 1.2 GB of pictures, in their original resolution, arranged in folders, and have them stay there undisturbed for years.
A solid provider like a big cloud service provider who is likely to be around for several years.
I want to be able to drag-and-drop or FTP picture files, I specifically don't want a picture gallery service where you must create gallery pages and upload pictures through a slow web interface.

Currently I'm looking at Google Photos. I already use it for my personal needs, I could create an account for my texture gallery, I think the free subscription allows 15 GB of pictures under 16 megapixels each.

Do you have any suggestions?
Thanks

Oh my, that looks like an impressive collection of photos! So nice of you to share these! :)

(I wish I could travel the world like that)

For 1.2 gb, I assume most free photos host will do the trick. I don't use these much, bug I guess something like Flickr might work. Google Photos is a good option too, it has a 15gb limit for tree users, which is plenty enough.

Avoid generic 'cloud' storage systems like Google Drive or Dropbox etc; they often have specific rules against these kind of 'photo depository' usage; and I already got several google Drive files taken down because I was sharing them with 'too many people' (how much exactly is that number is still a mystery to me)/

Chacal, that would be awesome to have all of these wonderful photos to use! I remember when you first shared some of them, I still have that wooden door in my texture folder. It is used a lot! :)
