New Zephyr Cove Sneak Peek....

Postby andylegate » Sun Apr 20, 2008 7:02 pm

Here's some screen shots of the New Zephyr Cove. Still has a lot of work to go, but things are shaping up nicely now. Thanks to Boblishman for jogging my memory about mipmapping.

Oh, cool!
I am still trying to find some time to compete my shell, but it still won't look as cool.

Looks great. :)

I like the lighting on the avatar in the cave, but I remember the lighting outside was kind of strange before--not sure if it's fixed.

Here's a tip, duplicate your main spot-light and tilt it so it's to right angles with the upright one(so that there's one facing straight at your avatar from the direction of the sun, kind of pointing along the line of sight if your avvie is looking straight at the sun. Having spot-lights at different angles but pointing toward the center of your sky-dome really gives it a nice look. :)

Keep up the good work. 8-)

Way to go Andy, the Cove is looking superb! Really nice overhaul, with a lot of subtlety in both the textures and the lighting, bringing an increased level of realism. I'm looking forward to downloading a revised version to explore again.

glowing crystals?!

No, I'm sure they're illuminated by a led-light mounted behind them.
Either that, or a small tritium tube, with fluorescent coating, good to last for about 18 years. :P

(See, Jennifer... Nothing to worry about!)

BTW, those new rocks look COOL!

Thanks! Took a while to do too. And I'm afraid they are a bit heavy on the poly side, but it was the only way I could get them to look more natural.

Don't worry about lots of verts as long as:

1) they're needed to make it look good
2) they're important to the wellbeing of the age
3) you're not planning to add large expanses of terrain, and if you do, you use tricks like vis-regions

:)
