Age Prototype of "Tahwah"

Postby The.Modificator » Tue Mar 30, 2010 5:11 pm

Hello everybody!

I've been working on a prototype of an age (or actually two) for the last few weeks. Since this age is primary not about graphics, music or art in general yet but focuses on the technical aspect, I didn't place this thread in the Builders/Showcase forum. In case this was a bad decision: Mods, please move it away. ;)

Since I don't feel that screenshots+text is the right medium to communicate what this age is about, I created a technical demonstration video and a IC-style development diary.

So here you go - my Tahwah diary. (You don't have to read it, you can also skip directly to the video.)

And here's my video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-rk-IumNn1Q

For technical backgrounds and a list of credits, see this post: viewtopic.php?p=41773#p41773

Cheers,

Modi

Sorry for double-posting, but the video upload (and first processing stage) seems to be complete. So have fun watching it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-rk-IumNn1Q

Wow. I had no idea anything like this was even possible. Beyond the basic terrain modification would it also be possible eventually to texture it etc. ingame?

It isn't. The.Modificator built a time machine and used it to backport Plasma features from the future. At any minute the world will start falling apart around us!

In other news, you guys take "brilliant" to all sorts of new levels!

Oh wow, I knew D'ni must have used computers for book writing, and now I see that they had!

Am I right in assuming you glued bits of pyprp to the age's python script?
One day I ran through the cleft for the fiftieth time, and found that uru held no peace for me anymore.

No. It's much, much more horrible than that. But it works :) . I'll leave it to Modi to explain the details.

Anyway, I was about as stunned as you are now when he first told me of his plans. Of course nothing could stop me from jumping on when I realized it could work ;-)
I prefer e-mails to "diafero arcor de" (after adding the at and the dot) over PMs.
