Just an update:

I uninstalled both CC and Deep Island, reinstalling in a "Saved Games" folder. I am getting the same problems and the programs do not run. Will continue to watch this thread to see if anyone has any success with Windows 8.

I'd like to let others know that if you have more than one computer at home, you can access Deep Island on another computer via your home network instead of trying to get it to work on Windows 8. I had nothing but irritation trying to get it to run on my Windows 8 machine, so I just made use of my home network & logged in to my Windows 7 netbook (I know, I know, amazing that it runs any game) I then ran the launcher via that computer, and shazam, running perfectly on my Windows 8 machine. Just something to try if you have another machine.

Hi guys,

I'm running a Deep Island client on a Windows 8 Pro machine, x86-64 (just ran it again to make sure all was good, and I was traipsing around Relto in no time). I'm pretty sure I'm using the GOG.com URU CC installation as a base, which might be significant.

Unfortunately I set it up a while ago so I don't recall the specific steps that I had to take to make it work. I don't remember having to do anything too complicated, though (e.g., copying from other installations, putting it in a non-"Program Files" directory). I'm happy to look up any configuration information about my setup if it would help any of you; just let me know what info you'd like.

I wonder if "Windows 8 Pro" is different enough from "Windows 8" to allow CC and DI to run on the former. My Uru: CC is from GOG.com. Perhaps sharing your compatibility settings would be helpful.

I see that I've applied "Windows 7" compatibility to Uru.exe, as well as running as administrator. The directory I run it from is "C:\Program Files (x86)\URU - Deep Island". Let me know if there's other info that could help you.

It's been a couple of months since I last tried getting my GoG version of URU:CC to run. Hoping that the intervening Windows 8 updates may have changed things, I just tried a new install but the same errors are occurring (even under various compatibility settings). Anyone have any success getting things to work under Windows 8?

Note: I am assuming that Deep Island won't work if URU:CC isn't, so I didn't try logging into the shard.

I've just tried the Steam version of Uru CC on windows 8 and it seems to just work out of the box. Made an avatar and linked to the cleft.
Is there anything specifically that goes wrong, or error messages you get?

The Uru Setup box pops-up, it is then almost immediately followed by the error message "UruSetup.exe has stopped working", and then the program closes.

I did have w8 for a time but returned to w7.
I have never had problems like you have in w8, it all worked in the first try.

I have one advise.
Never install these uru related things inside the folder" Program files."
Install it in its own folder directly in the root o f the drive.

The folder " program files is more " secured " by the system..
May be that prohibits it to run properly , even if you give administrator rights.

This is true, I don't have Steam installed in my program files, so maybe installing it somewhere else might work?
