Oh, that's right. I couldn't recall the details.

So strange that the OSX sound system keeps affecting seemingly-unrelated things, though.

I'm guessing it's to do with overall memory usage But I really have no idea.
I also run another shard (the one whose name we dare not mention) which will stack dump as soon as the first (linking sound) audio file is attempting to play. I can only run the shard with the audio DISabled.

Shouldn't complain I suppose as Uru was only made as a Windows release and shouldn't really be playable on a Mac anyway!

I am curious about this new 25year Aniversay release of all the Myst series which ARE Mac compatible. Has anyone got the Mac Uru CC App yet?

Myst, Riven, and Myst III are using ScummVM/ResidualVM, so they're playable on not just Windows and Macs, but a very wide range of systems and devices. From what I read Myst IV, Uru, and Myst V will probably be using a Transgaming wrapper at this time. I wish we were far enough along with making Plasma truly cross-platform that they could use our work and make Myst V and Uru native applications, but alas.

So, I just made a new avatar with my same old Wineskin wrapper 2.6.2 with Wine 1.5.0, using max settings, and I had no trouble completing the Cleft and getting to Relto (just a ~1 min delay in linking) :?

I haven’t tried with the updated Uru from GOG yet; under Windows it seems still compatible with the DI patch, but it reverts the mouse fix.

Also, a while ago I tested Wine 3.0 (which Wineskin still doesn’t support – frankly Wineskin looks like it has been abandoned) with PlayOnMac and it seems to work as fine as 1.5.0.

On an unrelated side note, it looks like that the ‘Guild of Wizards’ shirt is now the default for a new avatar (a male one, at least). Is that intentional?

I have only one question korovev: what is the spec of your Mac, and which MACOSX are you running?
We have been down this route before... and I'm guessing your Mac
a) is not as old as ours
b) has more memory, especially graphic memory
c) has a faster / newer processor
... etc.

As you can see from this thread (which started way back when my machine wasn't as old as it is now) these glitches seem to affect older Macs.

I'm pleased newer Macs don't have these issues

Ours, though, do, and that's why we're posting our fixes.

OK.... even more testing!

Thanks to Korovev (BIG thanks) I decided to download and try PlayOnMac.

I installed the DI Shard using PlayOnMac and am (very) happy to report that, on my cranky old machine, the Cleft Book Room behaves completely normally.

I have FULL graphics AND sound, plus the clickable works ... and my Relto Book also works normally ... and that is with my settings all set to MAX (including all audio).

:)

This further makes me think that WineSkin is "past its sell-by date" when it comes to playing the Shards.

PlayonMac is a but more "complex" than Wineskin and also requires you to download XQuartz ... but if it's going to fix these glitches, for me, its worth it.

So, thanks again Korovev!

Right! I’m using an Early 2015 MacBook Air (Intel HD Graphics 6000 / 1.6 MHz Intel Core i5 / 4 GB DDR3) with macOS 10.13.4.

Last I checked, the issue with Wine 3 on Wineskin is that it breaks compatibility with older versions of macOS, and the author was also trying to rebuild the forum. That was a year ago, though :(

Did you use Wine 3.0 or 1.5.0 with POM?

Here I have a few Uru-related install scripts for PlayOnMac/Linux (they should work at this point, but testers are always welcome ;) ). The script for Uru CC assumes using the installer, but it should be possible to cancel the process and still end up with a usable prefix, though you’ll need to add the DI patch manually. It is possible to add a choice to use the installer or import a folder, I just need to look up the specific commands and make sure I don’t break the script again :D

I used the 1.5.0 engine.

Hmmm... interesting that you're using 10.13.4 ... as this Wineskin glitch only seems to appeared recently --- and may be something to do with recent updates to the MacOS.

Pleased to report that "the shard that dare not speak it's name" also runs perfectly WITH sound under PlayOnMac.

:)

Using PlayOnMac also fixes the "left sided screen" of the TOC-tPotS shard.

korovev, have you tried using PlayOnMac for MOULa? If so, which wine engine?
