Feel free to try this patch on the Steam files. As mentioned, I haven't tried it, but it might work if the files in the DAT folder are EXACTLY the same as in the GOG version. I even tried unchecking the "verify hash" box, so I guess they are referencing different hashes?


Sadly, that means that this patch is incompatible with the Steam version :( "Verify Hash" checkbox is for verifying the files AFTER conversion. I would gladly update the patch to support the Steam version, but neither I nor any of m friends own it.

Do you have a Steam account at all? If so, if I gifted the game to you through Steam, do you think you could edit a version for it? Keep in mind I have no idea how this patch making task works, hence why I'm asking if it would be trivial/difficult to do if you DID have the Steam version. It would be annoying to buy it again, but cool if it could help the people who do have Steam versions.

But, yeah, I need to know what you can and are willing to do.

If you are willing to donate a copy, then yes, I'd be more than willing to update the patch. It will take some though, since I'm not planning to release anything until I test it and confirm that it works. My Steam id is the same as here: hgdagon.

Okay, I sent you a friend request from "EhrenCG" (because the name "Ehren" had been already taken when I registered.) You need to be on my friend list for me to send a game apparently, but it helps me absolutely confirm it's you anyway. And yes, I did figure it could take some time to do.

Updated the patch to v1.1.
Added Steam version support.
Added automatic folder detection.

TO DO:
Detect Steam version from any outside folder (?)

Here it is, feel free to test, and, please, comment about the results.

Yes, I can now access all the Myst V ages on the shard! There are some oddities, a lot of the ambient bg sounds aren't playing, I could've sworn more of the sounds used to work but it has been a long time and one computer ago... Also, I thought the Yeesha booklets in the shaft were supposed to be hidden too, but again, I may be mixing up with an idea I had.


PS: Someone should comment out the line "Graphics.Renderer.Gamma2 0.0" from Direbo.fni. It screws with gamma settings, and I'm pretty sure it was a mistake that they even left it in Myst V itself... Descent.fni (DescentMystV.fni) already has a commented out gamma setting, so I guess it was part of a system they originally were going to have?

Done (for the Shard). The file should be auto-updated the next tome you link to that age.
