That second thread you linked to is unreadable at least in some browser (including mine). Here's grey dragon's message from 25 January 2006 - 05:55 PM:

Those projects might already have legal permission – It would be wise for anyone with a project they are working on to contact Cyan again. Chris Brandkamp dealt with a lot of these issues before. When Cyan reformed – Chris decided to move on to bigger and better things. If you have a concern about your project please contact legal.
