Age Creator Introduction & Release Announcements

Postby Branan » Sat Mar 13, 2010 4:32 pm

Introduction
Age Creator is a new program for creating Uru Ages. It is extremely early in development, so there's not much to say.

Currently, it can import some OBJ files and export extremely basic ages. It has no support for materials, lights, or any of the more advanced Plasma objects. Cyan ages can be imported, but there's a chance imported ages will cause crashes, and generally not work correctly.

Stable Releases
Currently there is no stable released version of Age Creator; it is still quite early in development. If you'd like to play with it, either grab a development snapshot, or checkout the source code and build it yourself.

Windows Development Builds
The latest released Windows development build is: Rev 198.

Note:
I'm now building AgeCreator using Visual Studio. You'll need the Visual Studio runtime now.

Currently, there are no development builds for other platforms.

New snapshot uploaded for R50.
  • New method of adding objects: a popup menu instead of a dialog
  • Properties pane removed. Object names can be directly edited in the object list

Uploaded snapshot R61 (patched)
  • 2D view added
  • OBJ loader fixed so it shouldn't crash anymore
  • Lots of small internal changes to mesh handling, but there shouldn't be any noticeable changes.

This build is patched from trunk, and requires a patched libHSPlasma. The patched code is not in SVN because I don't want trunk to require a patched libHSPlasma. The difference is just that the 2d and 3d rendering is enabled in this build, but not in trunk.

EDIT: Unfortunately, because the preview rendering is enabled, it will crash if you add more than one mesh object. I'm still tracking down that bug.

Uploaded snapshot R87
  • Added an avatar model for spawnpoints. Thanks Aloys :)
  • Lots of work on the 3D preview. Currrently it does its best to guess which material layer to draw. Future release will have better layer handling.

Uploaded Snapshot R123
  • Mostly internal changes to mesh handling code. Meshes that have multiple materials are cleanly handled in the code now, although the OBJ importer doesn't handle it yet.
  • Lots of minor fixes to the 3D preview
  • .sum file generation
  • hardware requirement for the 3D view should now be a DX 8.1 card, rather than DX 9 (using ARB assembly shader instead of GLSL).

Note that material handling doesn't exist in the GUI in this snapshot, it still hasn't been completely re-written for the new mesh handling code.

Uploaded Snapshort R190
  • Tree view now jumps when selecting objects in the 3D view
  • Object context menu is now available in the 3D view
  • Objects can be moved by left-clicking and dragging in the 2D views.

I broke the object right-click menu (just temporarily!) in this release, while I work on the way SceneObjects are handled.
