Holy Potatoes! OS Stuff Happened.

Postby N. Sigismund » Wed Apr 06, 2011 6:24 pm

I'm the guy who has to make this topic? Seriously?

So, stuff has happened. This stuff:
http://mystonline.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=24534

And also this stuff:
http://wiki.openuru.org/index.php?title ... com_Engine

Also this:
http://wiki.openuru.org/index.php?title=MOSS

So, yeah. Cyan gave the client files + plugin files to the OpenUru team last month. Simultaneously, a two-man team gets a shiny-new server up and running. Now, suddently all is revealed and now everyone gets to be all excited. Ish. Maybe there'll be drama instead. I don't know.

Anyway, it's half two in the morning here and my knowledge of computer code is limited to the most basic of basics, so I'll go sleep now.

Stuff just got real. Holy potatoes.

EDIT: Oh, and PaladinofKaos announced that he'll be focusing on this new stuff rather than PC. Which is sweet.

I guess Zrax's dirtsand project doesn't count as an open-source server?

Would also be nice to be able to get at the code without needing to create an account...

You can. There's a link at the Above page, where you can download the raw sources.

Right, GPNMilano. The raw downloads are available without an account.

However, we are initially throttling cloning from the repo via Foundry JIRA account. Once it settles down, the repo will be completely open to public browsing. It is not busy right now, so we are leaving Fisheye and Mercurial open for the night (i.e. no account necessary). We'll keep an eye on traffic and throttle if/when necessary. We don't expect that to last long anyway.

The raw download zip is direct from Cyan and is not buildable. The CWE repo client is buildable, thanks to a'moaca' and cjkelly1. MOSS is buildable. (The pair produce a legal, working shard.) The 3ds Max plugin needs your help.

Wow, I did not believe anymore this day would ever come!

The source access is quite unfortunate though currently... took me a while to get through all those wiki pages, and having to add a custom certificate kind of makes https useless. And my account list grew even longer as I could not find anonymous login data.
Do you really expect that those 20, maybe 50 people in the Uru community that the source will be any use to will take down your server if you do not throttle access?
I prefer e-mails to "diafero arcor de" (after adding the at and the dot) over PMs.

I got confirmation from the OU guys that I can mirror, so you don't have to jump through hoops to get the source. As Rarified asked me though, don't forget to go back and share!

Here's the current version of CWE. It's not built. It also comes with the plugin, which needs TLC.

No. But we believe this news is bigger than the current Uru community. Prepare for the worst, hope for the best, and all that. And we have adjusted to conditions by making it publicly browsable when it appears the server is not busy.

Dang, I didn't thought we would eventually see that actually happen. Talk about a surprise. :)
I haven't been around here in quite a while in part due to that, but this might just bring in new energy in the community..

[edit] argh! there's now manual user approval over at the MOUL forums? :x Can't go away for 6 months without having the world turns on its end in my back can I?
