In my experience, the "gold" version does not work, but the "white" version does.

i just bought Myst 5 from GOG.com. do not know if this is a gold or white version. do i have a correct version ? i do not want to mess up my DI installation with the wrong copy.
btw typing 'Myst 5 white version' didn't produce any results when googling for it. it would be helpful to know WHERE EXACTLY to go (site name and link) to obtain/order the correct version which is compatible with DI. [i prefer buying a digital versions over waiting for a CD to arrive.]

I have also had to obtain a "White Box" version of Myst 5, Unfortunately the GOG version has had the Language and Python files modified to encompass a greater percentage of the world's population.

You might try Amazon dot Com for a "White Box" version of Myst 5

Edit 1: GOG has added the Russian, Polish and Japanese Languages to their version.
Edit 2: If I remember correctly - Deleting the added (SFX and DAT) Language files does NOT work...

The extra language files cause a problem?

It's not the extra language files that cause the problem, it's the modified prps including new sound emitters (it includes new plSoundBuffer for each of Escher's speeches, one for each different language). Which means Drizzle converts theses new objects and the resulting prp is not 100% the same as DI expects.

Oh, so it's just a checksum mismatch. Gotcha. That sucks. :(

One can strip those fairly easily though, if that's all that differs.

IIRC, that's what Diafero tried, but it occurred for other prps containing geometry, such as the lower part of the great shaft. Maybe because of Yeesha's imagers... or Yeesha's booklets (since these books actually talk, hehe).

Ah, yeah. It's a shame there isn't a better way to coordinate Uru data. :/

Perhaps diafero's UruStart could be changed to allow multiple permissible PRP checksums?

It could, but everything in Uru relies on the prp files being exactly the same for everyone, so I would risk the most weirdest behaviours in doing so. The best thing to do would probably be to detect "ah, you have *that* version of this file, now let me apply this binary delta to make it the correct version" - but I don't think I'll implement this.

And yes, I tried just leaving away prp files we don't care about, but as Sirius mentioned, there were prp files with differences that I couldn't just delete.
