Installing Gehn Shard on OSX

yes, messing with the windows settings I can (kinda) get in now to the updating screen ... but mine crashes when it tries to download the updated files .... ... which I guess you got from your Windows dat folder.

If you could give me access to all those "GUI_District_ -----" prp files (via a zip file) which I could drop into my dat folder, my guess is that I could get into the Avatar selection screen ...

interesting. Just realised I could use the files in my MOULa so replaced all the "GUI_District_ -----" prp files with those.

Ran the game, got to the "Updating" screen and "GUI_District_AdvancedGameSettingsDialog.prp" and it crashed.
Went back to look at the files in the date folder and all those copied "GUI_District_ -----" files had all been replaced with their respective "(GUI_District .......etc ).prp /today's date / zero bytes".

I'm guessing this means that either my wrapper will not download the newer (Ghen) versions of those prps ... or the GOW server is not having a good day?

I await further instructions ....

So it appears. Could you please supply your Gehn logs? It would make it easier to investigate what the downloader is (not) doing.

That's what happened to me when running it in Windowed mode. Try switching to Fullscreen and see if that helps. It loaded instantly for me. I'm not sure why this is an issue (it used to be in reverse, and was connected to VSync).

It’s a new wrapper, so it does start in fullscreen .
I’ll try switching to windowed, and post a link the Log folder soon.

Thanks for the logs. Hoikas examined them and it seems the crash is happening inside of Wine's code, so it's likely there are still some places they haven't finished implementing the newer runtime. What this means is that (for now, at least) players on OSX will need to copy over their files from a patched-up Windows installation of Gehn. Definitely a pain (and not available to all players) but with luck the Wine devs will continue to fix these problems, and soon (they might already be in the mainline Wine, since Wineskin is slightly behind)!

What does this actually mean? Which files? Can they be made available to those of us without Windows somewhere? Will this mean that any updated files will not download? Sorry, I just don't understand what's NOT working ...

The Gehn Shard needs to patch or download (I’m not sure which, maybe both) a few files. The problem is that currently the wrapper hopelessly fails to download them, so you need to copy them from an up-to-date Gehn folder from a Windows installation. I gather the patched files cannot be distributed by themselves.

Both my original WineSkin wrapper and the one Korovev provided begins by downloading the additional installers for OAL, PhysX, DXWebSetup, and VC RunTime. Of these, dxwebsetup.exe fails in every case. Using Wine Tools, I opened a Command Line Shell to see the drill on these installations.

If you go to \Windows\Logs in Korovev's wrapper, you will see that the same errors were logged there on February 26 as reappeared there again for me.

Here are those logs from Korovev's wrapper, showing his version of the errors on 2/26 and my identical errors on 3/2.

By reviewing these same logs on a working Windows machine, it might be possible to figure out what is going awry in WineSkin.
