The installer should handle this automatically, but you can try installing the DirectX 9.0c runtime manually.

Did you install to Program Files (which is the default) and which IMHO shouldn't be the default. As soon as I uninstalled and reinstalled outside Program files all my initial problems went away.

Just as a note, we've had some discussions about this, and the problem is that ProgramData doesn't exist on XP so we would need to install in two different locations based on which version of Windows you were running. We're also looking at some other options for resolving the permissions problems on Vista and Windows 7.

Status Report: Updated the AMD/ATI Driver (Even though MS said I had the latest one) and now I'm almost there. I was able to update Directx and Physx. Started the launcher, did a big update and then got this:
UruGehn.1.6 - External.Release
Exception type: Access violation
Call stack (14 levels):
0x00000000
0x00000000
0x00000000
0x00000000
0x00000000
0x00000000
0x00000000
0x00000000
0x00000000
0x00000000
0x77CB9EC5
0x77CF74DF
0x01142655
0x0126A663
It's always fun...

And more info:
Everything works normally (Apparently) until I click "Explore URU" from the avatar selection screen. Screen goes to the grey book and immediately gives an alarm beep/buzz and everything stops. By using alt-tab I find a window saying
---------------------------
Linking Error
---------------------------
Unable to create file dat\AvatarCustomization.fni
---------------------------
OK
---------------------------

If I wait long enough I eventually get the call stack dump above.

LOL - Final Update:
Running as Administrator got me to relto. However, I have the same problem here as the Cyan Shard. Lot's of Ice and snow in Relto. That is, some objects show up white. Although it's much less pronounced in Gehn.

Thanks for the info. I am not bothered if the info was there where I got the installer viewtopic.php?f=117&t=5540 It could help others before they install if this info was provided. Makes life a little easier that is all. :D For dummies like me. ;)

Why is this a problem? ProgramData does not exist on Vista and Win7 either. Most installers pop a dialog saying the target directory does not exist and would you like to create it or just create it without asking. And if you don't want to make a couple of if statements to handle win5, win6, and win7 (and no doubt soon win8) I don't see any reason why you can't create ProgramData on XP as well.

As far as trying to change permissions on Program Files, good luck with that. The O/S seems to detect this and either block the change or revert the permissions back to default.

I have the folder ProgramData on my dual boot Vista, Win 8 and Win 7 machines

Edit: with 40 subfolders (ie Adobe, Apple, DirectX, DivX, HP, Logitech, PC Tools, Sun and ect)

My recollection (none too reliable) is that my original clean install of both Vista and Win7 did not have this folder. I first recall seeing ProgramData on my Vista machine as a result of the Gametap installation of MOUL. The explanantion given at the time was to get around certain issues with installing in Program Files. When I had issues with other game programs, I created this directory to put them in for any new system I built after I gave up trying to change permissions in Program Files.

All of my games are in their own folders on an external eSata Hard Drive. This way I don't have to have multiple installs
