I am running 64 bit windows 7.
UruGehn runs up to the point where it displays 'Preparing to Link...' then crashes with the error message 'Unable to create file dat\AvatarCustomization.fni' followed by 'URU has experienced a serious error and needs to close. Please submit your log folder to the developer.'
I have looked in the programmes dat folder and the file 'AvatarCustomization.fni' already exists. As to the mention of a 'log folder', I have no idea what it is or where it might be?

So PLEASE, I desperately need some help and guidance.

Looks like your client has limited write permissions. Did you try running Gehn as an administrator?

Hi and welcome jcl3rd ... Mystler is right, yeah, of course, he's a shard operator resp. developer
himself, but you can find the same solution and another one to even avoid granting any further
special administrator rights, esp. on a Win 7 64 bit OS (like me lol), here ...
(GT MOUL=GameTap MOUL, johnsojc is referring to btw)

You find the Gehn Shard log folder here --> "C:\Users\user\AppData\Local\Uru - Gehn Shard"

If you do not find "C:\Users\user\AppData\Local\Uru - Gehn Shard"

Open windows explorer C drive
Click the tab Tools
Click Folder Options
Click the tab View
Uncheck Hide extensions for known file types
Check Show hidden files, folders, and drives

then check under what ever you have named your system drive (I called mine Shayate)
then look for AppData - Local - and finally Uru - Gehn Shard

for me this became C:\Users\Shayate\AppData\Local\Uru - Gehn Shard\Log

once you find the folder Right click it
then click Send To
click Desktop (Create Shortcut)

I'm glad you've made it, jcl3rd ... as of the party, if in doubt, please look into the above mentioned
party thread ... It is the Gehn shard's birthday party resp. its 1st anniversary, and as Adam has
announced it will start at 13:00 pm KI time, which is 20:00 pm UTC or GMT ...

He also mentioned that there will be a special 'preparing for the party' session after the today's
monthly 'AllGuildsMeeting' at 20:00 pm GMT in Kirel in MOULa in case you or anybody had any
further questions or suggestions etc ... However, enjoy and see you at any time in the cavern ...

Or, the easy way: paste or type %LOCALAPPDATA%\Uru - Gehn Shard into an Explorer window.

I've got a new problem now. I thought I'd get ready for the sparkly in Eder Gira, (as I've done the one for Kadish). I know I'm redoing old stuff but I thought; what else to do? There's only two vid's on youtube nothing to do with the 'shard', I'm a newbie an that's it.
Anyway; I did the first lot of fireflies and set up the two wicker baskets for the next bit. Imagine my shock when I take the next lot of fireflies thought, only to find that one of the baskets has disappeared! So I'm buggered maybe? now I've got to delete one or both books an try again. Or should I bother!?

This is a known issue, jcl3rd - I've been posting today about the fact that it's still happening in Gehn 13 - you'll find lots of references to fish baskets in the forum if you do a search. You'll also find some pics showing where they have disappeared to! We'll have to see whether it's a persistent problem in Gehn13 . Worth trying a reset.
