Time to do this.

Yeah, we are supposed to have Directors. I've been looking for a Director of "Making Those Freaking Journals" (and yes, that would be their official title) for quite a while, but haven't found one who I thought was both suitable for the job and not busy enough by themselves and wouldn't be offended by the offer. Speaking of that, absolutely not to derail the thread, but uh, if anyone would like to make those journals...just let me know and you'll be our first Director :D

I've heard from the person I would have liked to nominate, someone well qualified for the job. They were touched by the proposition, but were unable to accept it.

Heh, ok, I didn't know you actually had someone in mind. I'm guessing you don't want to share who this is? Knowing that there is someone else who is qualified for this kind of position would be quite a nice thing to know. ;)

J'kla, who actually does have permission now to post here, asked me to post this for everyone to see.

J'kla wrote:I would add my support to BAD for the post but only on the condition that he remains forum mod and if he decides to stand down as Mod to take on the post then he should be excluded on the grounds of undue remorse. I do have an image of an Ostachicken that can be considered as blackmail.

Earlier posts make it sound like BAD may be using this as an escape from Mod duties a role at which he has excelled at this time the position duties are liable to be less than onerous and if they do stretch to a grater extent then a substitute for either role could be sought.

Enjoy. ;)

There are several others I know of who would be qualified for this type of position -- people like Jennifer_P, Robert the Rebuilder, Trylon, Aloys to name but a few.

People who have demonstrated their technical and artistic skills in Age building.

People with a track record of team building and working with others as a team, encouraging others to take part, welcoming and supporting newcomers, respecting and appreciating others' skills.

And people well respected across the whole community.

At last I am able to post.

I thank BAD for showing his integrity in posting my earlier missive for me when I was unable.

There is this concept that a director of creative content should be creative when surely this post in any other organisation would be filled by a critic or an editor.

There is an overarching concept that while a creative person may direct creative content in a given direction someone not so creative may be able to see a bigger picture and as a neutral draw together two or more disparate talents towards a new common direction.

The focus required to put together even one age is difficult so I can see how having such a director would be an advantage.

We are still in the early days of this open source experiment and I could see BAD making an admirable job of the post, and I do not see the workload for it being onerous at this time, and the role itself is not that different from Mod where you must remain detached from the deeper goings on. Acting to draw together some members while acting as a calming influence between aggravated factions.

I really don't see the roles as mutually exclusive at least until we get the first shard running.

I would consider most of the forum posts up for review at that point. When some members will want to look at focusing on the tech aspects of the new shard and when we may split into groups specialising in Avatars emotes and dress, Stained glass design, KI interface design, Age building and Nexus operation and design just to name a few ideas.

I know from experience BAD has shown a talent in the first group having had one Avatar clothing design accepted by Cyan.

Kato if you really want someone to oversee Journals it's a role I would consider given that my true field is story.

I also have a vision for distributed Journals that is journals for one age posted or concealed in another. I have had experience of this as I was involved in and am still at the heart of a project that embedded six journals into UU although I will admit the technical aspects were driven by D'Lanor

At this time I am actually head banging through putting journals into my own age following Andy legates' excellent tutorial thread over on GoMA while still editing content to conform with FCAL.

But you all know the adage if you want a job done give it to somebody busy. :D

P.S. I am out of contact till Sunday real time real life family Christmas gathering.

Er, J'kla, the "Making those Journals" job just means setting up one of these on the forum whenever anyone asks for one. Nothing to do with being story-oriented or creative in any way. Apparently it's tedious and Kato is getting tired of it. >.>

Oh, that's what it means? I thought it was for writing newsletters or something.
Kato, you can off-load that on me, managing one more phpBB isn't going to make a difference. At least this one is up-to-date.

Sure, VB or IPB would be better, but when life gives you lemons... :D
