MAKING THE SCIENCE BUILDING WORK
The City was abandoned due to a bizarre fungus transported through a geosynchronous satellite tethered by an elevator line to TwoCities Island. [Really; such a 'space' fungus is reported to have attack the Russian Mir space platform.]
Explorer has now entered the Science Building where work was being done to expunge the blight – until its last scientist was overcome by long exposure to the fungus. Explorer has not been exposed, so her immune system is still sufficient. She must get the Science Building functioning in this now abandoned City, and then deploy the experimental remedies in hopes that scientists from MotherCity may return to effect a stable solution. Three of them have already been killed by exposure to the fungus.
At this point Explorer is faced with no power and the need to get elevators working in order to lower heavy spraying equipment to the ground. Below is the control panel for operating the industrial elevators. Operation is based upon restoring auxiliary power and and upon configuring the best possible arrangement of Raum in the building – an urban aesthetic consideration which very nearly a religion for these people.
The control panel shows a monitor underneath heavy pinkish glass, which when powered, will light up with a floor plan of the Science Building and provide various designs for bringing the building back into operation. When Explorer has achieved the best arrangement, the elevators will become active.
