Needed: Flowing water texture

Postby Whilyam » Fri Jun 13, 2008 9:36 am

I need a repeating texture of falling water (think the falls in Ahnonay, Relto, Gira, etc.) Unfortunately that's one of the kinds of textures I'm bad at.

I find that using pictures from real life make the best textures.

Have you tried taking a photo of water flowing over the side of a tub?

Does anyone actually have a texture I could use? I'm not going to ruin my bathroom just to get a texture.

 Yeah, that's what I was thinking. That's an awesome suggestion.

To be a little less literal... perhaps taking a photo of running water flowing over the side of a bucket in your tub instead?

I thought of that, but then I get the bucket's color in the picture and it looks bad in the game. What I'm really looking for is a texture to use as a waterfall (with little serrated edges like the one in Gira).

If you have a glass baking dish or a large glass mixing bowl that might work Whil.
Even if the mixing bowl is coloured glass you should be able to adjust the colour afterward.

I remember seeing a texture made in a program used for water, but I don't have the time or interest to learn the program. Could someone please give me a link to an image? Sorry if I sound snipy but if I wanted to make this texture, I would have.

http://blender-materials.org/ <-- a public domain library of proceedural materials, they all tend to be awesome.
