Sea of Mist

Postby Eyes only » Wed Feb 04, 2009 2:59 pm

I got this idea for a really cool age/story and ive made some concept art and whatnot for it. anyway its called the Sea of mist (or sparks i might name it sparks). when you first arrive in the age its not entirely clear why it is called that because your sort of in the caldera of a old and now inactive volcano. you see the edges of the caldera rise up really high the sky is indigo and there is a dicidious forest inside the calderas with ferns and other plant life carpeting the floor of the forest. a path winds through it. eventually you come to a split that goes off to the right this plath takes you to a small clear lake and a stone dock with a bench on the end. there are lilly like plants in the water with purple blooms.

keep going past the path to the dock you see another pathway going to the opposite end of the caldera is a door with a strange Picture and below it a keyhole the doorway is locked.
You go back and continue again down the path to find yet another going of to the right this leads to a house. inside you see it definitely belongs to an artist and age writer as the art supplies are inside a studio. journals and papers with sketches are everywhere as well as old paintings and a portrait of the D'ni who wrote the age. this D'ni is a woman who strangely enough kind of looks like me except ill deny that...(thought it would be funny. i have a weird sense of humor :P ) Anyway the other 3 rooms in the house consist of a small kitchen a bedroom and a library.

back on the pathway you continue on to find a pedistal with a cryptex. 3 dials with D'ni numbers around the edges and a rectangle below them. the dials are aranged in a triangle with lines connecting them. the pedistal itself is an octigonal shape. now around the caldera are 3 Dni numbers. plug them into the cryptex in the right order and the square will pop open revealing a key. this key unlocks the door. (since you dont have an inventory here ill just say when you click on the key it vanishes and appears in the door) there are no more paths btw. so you go back to the door and look and open it. there is a dark spiral stairway leading down. unfortunately you'll probably need a Ki light or other light source.
there are 2 or 3 other levels with doors leading to the next one. each level has three D'ni numbers around them with a pedistal containing a key. on the bottom level that door opens to a tunnel that leads to the outside of the caldera. here is were you see why this age is called the sea of mist. a flat ledge juts out from were you are at the ege a sea of mist mist/fog stretches out as far as the eye can see. right in front of you pillars rise out from the mist. they are huge! they are staggared and 'march' off into the distance. you can sort of see that each one is taller than the one before it.
a stairway of rope, cable, and wood leads to the top of the first one. from here on sturdy bridges lead outto the next pillar. if you look back youll see the whole volcano and that its like an island in the mist. bout several pillars out a bridge is broken impeading your progress.

i figure id release the age at this point and perfect what i have and continue on the pillar path after working bugs out of the caldera and whatnot.

now each level is diferent from the next i pretty much only have two planned out so i figure ill probably just stop there.

the first lower level is made of red volcanic rock with fossils everywere. i figure though myself and the 'explorers will have set up some sort of light source on this level.
the second level sort of looks like obsidian with strange stones inside it and on the floor. touch the stones and your body heat will make them glow! and actually back in the house you'll find a lantern using a cut stone as the light. (cant pick it up though obviously.)

all the pedistals are made of a stone maby ill make it nara maybe not.

beyond the several pillars? more pillars! anyway they eventually go above the cloud layer and youll find these weird floating specks that glow. they just sit there and your movement barely disturbs them. there kind of hard to see in the daylight but at night theyre easyer to see. and then again youll find another broken bridge because thats as far as ive planned it. i dont really know whats below the mist ither :P

so um what do you guys think? ill also probably need some help too because the only skill i kind of have is drawing and writing. so id need someone to make textures and models and sound and programing... and someone who knows D'ni better than me. its kind of a big project idea and i will need help! (going to post concept art later.)

(i apologise for my bad grammer and spelling....}

It sounds well thought of and like a good age concept.
In 2007 I was on holiday along the Scottish coast (well, the whole UK actually) , and one day nearing the evening, we got this beautiful view of clouds hanging over the sea, as far as the eye could see.

I found a picture of it - might be nice for inspiration:

OK I won't sugar coat my response to you as I assume you want honesty and input. The concept of the mist age and volcano cauldron is very good. Visual aid Trylon post was nice, though my own imagination was better. Initially I thought of Relto and the mist there. I would love to see something incorporated into the Age that allows one to travel in, through or across the mist. Maybe a balloon suit one can put on and float with or a balloon airship.
The KI light could be available or perfected in MOOSE eventually and would be a great feature in your Age Story. I loved the idea and humor of placing yourself within the story as a charater. Your writing obviously shows you have character and great imagination. The puzzles "our Puzzles" will always need work and tweeking. The premise is good and seems sound enough. Have you tried drawing or sketching out some of the Art concepts for it? Smething I have been doing with my Own Age in progress. In fact, I have made quite a few detail 3-d sketches to help me visualize how things look, work and tie together. Perhaps some views of the paths, door, house. Sometimes drawing things can help the creative story along. It is worth perfecting in my humble opinion.

thanks :)
ive made maps, drawings of the doors, and cryptex as well as the keys and pillars. the pillars do go out across the mist and im playing with the idea of having a ladder 'added by my character' from the ledge down under the mist to see what was down there. have yet to draw the house though. i need to get up off my butt and scan my concept art... :P
