Avatar shadow and shiny surfaces

Postby Jonnee » Sat Jul 05, 2008 10:39 am

Hiho! :D
Jonnee is back in age writing and needs some help now. Many things are new developed since I left 18 months ago. :P

I forgot of a tutorial that shows how my avatar can cast a shadow to the ground. Anyone has a link to this tutorial please? I cant find it anymore.

Second thing is:
My suns cause bright spots on every object. I really like it, because it looks more realistic - and that wasn't possible to do when I wrote Jonae etc...
How can I reduce the intensity of these spots? I dont know the buttons and values for that. "No mist" and "Shadeless" turn it off, but I don't want to do that. Anyone can help or has a tutorial link too?

Thank you!

a) The shinyness is "specularity" ... use the slider in the "Shaders" Tab
b) Avatar shadows are cast by suns with the Ray Shad button pressed (in the Shadow and Spot tab)

one point: If you are using the latest plugin ...OBJECTS will all cast shadows by default ... unless you turn OFF the ShadBuf button in the materials Panel.

If you have all your objects casting shadows this way ...Uru will CHOKE. It's best to only use Shadbuf on a FEW objects (usually kickables). Non moving objects are better if they have either "painted" shadows, or shadow decals.

The ShadBuf is ON by default ... so get into the habit of switching it off each time you make a new material...
when it comes to Age creation ... "DOH" seems to be my middle name...
