Transparancy in general

Postby Marcello » Tue Jul 22, 2008 11:31 am

Hi all,

Now that RAD2 is over I can finally get some help here on my alpha issues. I've scrolled through some thread and read all kinds of new stuff I had never heard of before. Ztrans, transp, passindeces. I though I only had to set a z-index, which apparently wasn't enough.

I will be more than happy to write a tutorial on this, but I have no clue what all the new settings do. If someone can give me a breakdown here (even if it's in bullets), then I will try to fix my stuff and try to make it into a tutorial. This is too essential to not have something in depth be written about it.

Who can help me out?

With 1.5, PassIndex apparently replace ZOffs, since this sorting order is now set on a per object basis, rather than per material, as we did before.

Meanwhile Zoffs has been repurposed and is now used to set some flag or other ( 0.0->false, any other value->true ), whose purpose I can't get my head around -- from what Paradox writes in the 1.5 release thread, it kinda sounds like its presence makes Plasma try to automagically figure out how to make the material come out on top, but that guess is probably way off -- maybe he'll try to put it in baby-language for the rest of us, one of these days. :7
