yes, now the waveset parameters are under <object>.visual.waveset rather than just <object>.waveset

this was changed for 1.5.0, so if this just started happening after a plugin upgrade, the reason is that you're looking at a default waveset and your settings aren't being applied.

Okay, after a few days of intensive experimentalizing I got halfway acceptable results. Thanks for all your advices and help. :)
Almost everything of the age could get repaired. Only some things had to be changed in another way. But... Maybe it opens new possibilities. 8-) *think positive* :P
