particles

I would like to put an erupting volcano with pyroclastic particles ejected from the volcano in my Ordovician age, but I notice in the snowflake thread that particle systems have not yet been implemented (I presume you mean in prp). Is this still true, since the last post I saw was in April 2008. Particle systems are in the blender noob to pro tutorial. Is that feature in blender only for rendering video?

Particles are in Blender but not yet in PyPRP. I am not sure if we'll even hook the particles up to Blender's particle system. PyPRP will get particle support at some point. There is currently an odd problem holding up progress on this field.

Maybe you could have it be an animated texture instead (like Marcello's waterfall droplets).
Currently getting some ink on my hands over at the Guild Of Ink-Makers (PyPRP2).
