But does content even fall under the CWE open license? Cyan's content doesn't so why should ours?

The age itself is open to be downloaded and modified by anyone. There's no license for it, which I probably should get around to sorting out, but it's open source in the form that anyone could take my work and continue with it, modifying it and taking from it in any way they want. Basically I decided that it makes no sense to lock away materials that might be of use to others.

The issue is that I put the files up for download (which is handy because it means I can't lose development to hardware failure!) without really acknowledging that by doing so I'm breaking the rules by which CGTextures provides textures to the public. In the next release I intend to make sure that only files I have the right to redistribute are included with the download.

EDIT: Actually, thinking about it it's probably best for me to remove the link to the download. I shouldn't be distributing files, even those that are free, if I'm in the legal wrong.

In that case it is indeed a problem. I don't see why they have chosen this license scheme, but you can't change that unfortunately. :/

CGTextures sells extra download capacity. If I were to download all of their free textures and put them up somewhere else, I would be damaging their income, theoretically.

Theres also a side issue in that those excellent trees I use are not under a license where I can distribute them openly either. So yeah - no OS for the time being.

This evening I spent modelling and texturing.

I just read the CGTextures license and FAQ...

As long as you do not license your age under the GPL or LGPL*, then you can continue to use their textures. In other words, if you continue to release as you are now, then there is no issue. Your content doesn't fall under the GPL used by CWE. (Much like how Firefox doesn't fall under the Windows EULA when I run Firefox in Windows.)

* Note: There is very little sense in distributing an age under the GPL or LGPL. You could try CC By Attribution, No commercial, Share Alike. That one *seems* to be friendly with the CGT license, but I haven't read the entire CC-BY-NC-SA so don't accept that suggestion as authorative. On the other hand, if you still want to go GPL/LGPL you could simply add an exception to your licensing that mentions specific textures are from CG Textures and are covered by their license and not the (L)GPL. (Whew, this was a long edit-note)

Been a while since I posted an image, so here's Llantern as it stands today.

Of course, you don't get the functional background sound in that shot. :D

A reasonably top priority issue is that I'm still having issues with transparent pixels and the waveset. :|

Wow, very nice! If the sound is as good as the visuals that place will have some nice atmosphere. :)
If I may give two (hopefully constructive) critics:
I see it's supposed to be an end of day scene, but eventhen the lighting seems a bit too dark. That cliff on the right is almost black.
The foam texture on the waveset is a bit too light too compared to the rest of the scene, or maybe it is that the rest of the waveset is a bit too dark. Anyhow the contrast is a bit strong.

I agree. I lowered the general diffuse lighting down that low to see what effect I could get. It was better than before, trust me. ;) I'll try cranking up the lighting a smidge.

I'm still working on that. INeed to look at a few more reference photos to get the exact colour I'm aiming for down.

Thanks for your kind comment. If things go well, I expect to see a public release of Llantern v.A.003 (Alpha v.3) before the week is out. There'll be a source release under a slightly modified CC by Attrib 3.0 license simultaneously.

Also, wait until you hear the bit of music I've put in. :)
