Lights questions....

Postby andylegate » Mon Jan 14, 2008 5:41 am

Okay, thought I'd throw this out here in case someone has figured this out before we get more info hopefully.

Nadnerb said this about lighting in general:

General Lighting: All surfaces are now affected by all lights by default. If you want to have your surfaces not affected by dynamic light, set the "Shadeless" option in the materials panel.

Okay, now I have a room that is below the surface. Inside it is a blue light. With the old plug in, I simply told the surfaces of the room to be affected by the blue light only by setting the logic properties to:

string lights000 = Bluelight

And by not listing the sun1 light.

Now, as Nadnerb said, all surfaces are affected by all lights by default. If I don't want them to be, I set the shadeless option.

Er.....how to I make it to where the room surfaces are affected by the blue light, but not by the sun? Won't setting the shadeless option also make the blue light not affect the room surfaces?
Is there a way to tell it to be affected by the blue light but not the sun?

There is a way - Blender LightGroups

If you open up your materials panel, and go to the shaders subpanel there, you can see an empty textbox, containing only "GR:".

In that box, you can enter a name.
Congratulations! You just created a lightgroup for your object.
Only lights in that group will affect your material now.... (yes, lighting goes per material - in uru too)

Now, select a light that you want to add to that group.
Select the "Object" panel (the panel button with the three arrows).
On the left of this panel, you should see a button called "Add Group"
Press this one, and select the lightgroup to which you want to add the lamp.

Yes this is complex - and support for text properties in the previous style may return as an additional way in the future.
One day I ran through the cleft for the fiftieth time, and found that uru held no peace for me anymore.

Trylon.....I could give you a really BIG hug right now if my arms could cross the Atlantic!

tank you tank you tank you!

Ya know.......this dumb Maintainer just might learn how to make some good Ages yet! :D

EDIT:
Actually, you have to select one of your objects first, then go to Objects and click on the groups button, and ADD NEW first.
Then in the Materials Panel, you can select the GR: and type in the group name, and click on Exclusive that's next to it.
I did it that way, and it works great!
