A noobs questions about PyPRP

Postby Aikijitsu » Tue Mar 24, 2009 6:38 pm

Here's to that old question. I mailed Paradox about this because I didn't want to clutter the forums, but he told me to post it anyway for others who may have a problem. (sorry if the context is off...I copy a pasted my PM)

You probably know what I'm going to ask, and yes, I did read the wiki....several times.
Where do I place gow-pyprp1.5.0?
I looked for

C:\Program Files\Blender Foundation\Blender\.blender\scripts

My file path just goes to
C:\Program Files\Blender Foundation

The only folder I see in there is the src folder with a bunch of .py files.
Does that mean I am done? I have the gow-pyprp waiting in WinRAR for extraction, but I'm not even 10% sure where this mysterious file directory is.

Any help would be appreciated.

Like I said before, sorry for the redundant and random question.

Thanks for taking your time for me,
Chris Ireland (Future Age writer)

The Blender installer changed at one point, to accomodate multi-user environments and Vista better and someone is likely to help you out on that at some point (as soon as everybody are done playing Fright of the bumblebees ;), but if you are like myself and have installed Blender and all its associated files to a single directory, you likely to find it all under C:\Programs\, rather than C:\Program files\.

Eh Jojon? Don't you mean C:\ProgramData\ ? As in C:\ProgramData\Blender Foundation\Blender\.blender\scripts\

If you use the defaults during installation however I believe it goes into...
Vista - C:\Users\[profile name]\AppData\Roaming\Blender Foundation\Blender\.blender\scripts\
XP - C:\Documents and Settings\[profile name]\Application Data\Blender Foundation\Blender\.blender\scripts\

I used the default for installation. It went to programs like Jojon said.
it seems like blender works. It opens up. So may I assume that everything went where it was supposed to?
Of course that still doesn't tell me where I put GoW PyPRP.(To me, the Gow python looks like it has the same files that are in the src folder in the blender foundation).

hmmm ... I am using Vista ... and I did NOT choose the default installation for Blender ...

I chose the second option ("use installation directory") and mine is ....:

I wonder if your OS language setting has any affect on this and indeed if it's Windows/Mac or Linus ?

(I don't have a "C:\Programs" folder at all on my WINDOWS VISTA system .... only "Program Files" and "Program Data")

Exactly. There is no C:\Programs\ in Vista. At least not in mine which is the Home Premium edition. And yes, I can see the hidden folders.

To work around any stupid Microsoft policies I avoid C:\Program Files like the plague and install everything on a separate D:\ partition (as I have always done way back to DOS). :D I installed Blender with its zip file download and then associated .blend files to it manually. The zip has the scripts folder contained within the Blender folders.

ok... so you know where exactly to put the files on YOUR system:

1) Create a folder on your desktop called GOW Plugin
2) Tell winzip to extract ALL files to THAT folder
3)Inside that folder you will find a new folder called "src" ... this folder contains the plugin files
4) Search your system for a file called "blenderLipSynchro.py" ... THAT is the folder that you need to put the plugin files into (do NOT put the 'src' FOLDER ... but the FILES inside the 'src' folder

in other words, all the plugin files (that look like "prp_[xxxxx].py" should be in the SAME folder as "blenderLipSynchro.py"

I hope this helps

(OH, and don't feel bad about being confused ... this is probably the MOST asked question EVER about the plugin ...
...it has confused (almost) every NON developer since time began ... ;) )

My bad. Forgive me, I'm tired. I have a psychology presentation today, and I still need to do my PowerPoint.

It is program files. I'm using XP. Should I uninstall Blender and try the second option this time? If I do, are there any special options that I have to choose or does the wizard do it all for me?

It seems that your blender has a lot more than mine does.

I'll make sure to try it out as soon as possible. Just to clarify...When you say search, you mean the search program correct?
If this doesn't work out, I don't feel too much in a rush. I still has to do the blender tutorial before I even think about writing my Age. :P
