Softvolumes, but they're completely not working, and the problem with them hasn't been found yet.

Sorry :(

That's quite all right! No apologies are required!

I'd much rather have sound period than going back to nothing.

That was just too freaking cool, linking into my night time age and hearing the crickets!!!

Sound regions should do the trick also - basically they should be just like footstep sound regions, but with a different internal message....
(yeah, not implemented yet, but relatively easy to do...)
One day I ran through the cleft for the fiftieth time, and found that uru held no peace for me anymore.

Is this step necessary? I notice lots of .ogg files in sfx have no corresponding .wav file in sfx/streamingcache.

Only if the sounds objects are exported as plWin32StreamingSound

I gather that they are, but a look in PPREx will be a lot better than my assumption.

Just tried a mixture of my cricket sounds with some background music........ah me oh my, how this makes the Age come alive!!!!!!!!!!! :D

Too bad I can't keep the music though. 'Fraid it belongs to the game Sacred...... but worked for my test purpose.

Hey! I guess the musicians and SFX people have some jobs now! I bet we start hounding them for stuff.

Aaaaargh!
This explains why I couldn't add sounds manually when I tried a few weeks ago. I had all the objects setup correctly in my prp using PrpEx 0.6, checked and double-checked with a hex editor, but no sound would play.
But I hadn't placed a wav file in the StreamingCache directory, because I thought this was done by the game engine when needed.

I'm confused now....

Kato wrote:Open a Video Sequence Editor window in Blender. Use Add > Audio (RAM) to place the file somewhere you'll remember it in this editor. Now save your BLEND, because you've come a long way already.

whilst the tutorial says ...

... In Blender, change one of your views to a "Audio Window". Click the selector to the right of the menus and select "OPEN NEW". Then browse to a sound file and open it. A waveform should show up in the window. The name at the top is the name you will give for the "file" in your alcscript.

If you press Alt-A in the sound window, Blender will play the sound.

... my Blender (2.45) does NOT play the sound if I add the sound using the Audio Window...?? (However, it DOES play the sound if I add it via the Video Sequence Editor...

..so, which is the correct method?

Video Sequence Editor. At least when I've done it, that's how it worked, and it plays in Blender, and of course in the Age after I export it.

EDIT: But I just went and looked at the Wiki, and you're right, they say the Audio Window, and Nadnerb even has a pic showing it. I'm going to try it that way quickly and see what happens.

Andy... looks like with the new version of the plugin released today (1.20), that you can finally have your crickets only outside your hut! ... (good luck!)
