Nothing under Age and Page dropdowns in component utility

If you feel like you're up to the challenge of building your own Ages in Blender or 3ds Max, this is the place for you!

Of course. I just assumed any development would be taking place in the engine we actually have a debug mode for; it is an invaluable tool. I do all my Age dev work using CWE, and can't imagine doing it in Uru:CC.

OK, hopefully I have attached a pic both in-game and in-max of what I did.

Essentially I took a shape, extruded it, and created a room. Inside facing walls only - no outside walls. It would be a HUGE help to have some sort of page in the WIKI covering collision using the 3DS Max plugin! Thank you for what you have told me here, I now know a little more than I did about the subject. Had no luck finding any information yesterday.

I would dearly love to get my hand on a simple one or two room age, with collision and everything in place. The .max files and the age files. So Karkadann , yes, please do! That is, IMO, the best way for new age builders to learn. For those willing to share their work that way, or to create work specifically to be studied, to include the .max or .blend files as the case may be. For me I would like .max files. Also is there any reference for whatever debugging tools may exist in Uru CC?

I will try to build a client again, using the 912 build, for my machine. Maybe tomorrow. Building is one thing. Getting a client up and running is another entirely. But I would love to work with MOUL because at the very least I get to enjoy 1080p resolution! I haven't tried to see if the whole MOULa/Drizzle process works. Maybe something I can play with...

Thank you all for your replies and help! Once I know enough to make basic, functional ages you will be seeing a lot of video tutorials from me, and i will cover the whole process, from modeling to texturing to layout to an age. Right now I'm getting stuck too easily, so I have to get some more knowledge under my belt before I can continue.

I would dearly love to get up-to-date and work with MOULa/CWE/Plasma (I still get these three confused...) But every client I have tried doesn't work for me, and I couldn't get my own client, compiled from CWE, to work (following the tutorial here) :(

But I'll tell you what! Make a few video tutorials covering the entire shard and client setup process, step-by-step, everything laid out, up-to-date with CWE 9.12, and clearly explained, and you will have my eternal gratitude, as well as convince me to move to MOUL instead of UruCC. Right now to be honest age building for UruCC is easier, and I'm completely exhausted from all the hoops I had to jump through to get that workflow running.

:D

P.S. And yes Christopher, I know that Destiny is there as an alternative to making one's own shard. But now I have a beast of a computer that can run a Linux distro with no problem, and maybe I would want to go live with my shard someday. Who knows? I would like to know how to set everything up, even if I never use the information and just stick with Destiny. I like to have options and want to know how to stand on my own if needed.

I will try it and let you know.

THANK YOU! This really means a lot to me and I appreciate it!

Man maybe tonight I get this collision stuff figured out...

If I do I think my first major release age, which I will donate the Max files and resources to the community, shall be Valenwood. I made it for Morrowind years ago - lots of models and textures, not all my stuff but I think I have permission to use and share everything. Just need to make a small island to put it all on.

There will be a thread for this covering its progress if I am able to do this.

I wrote this tutorial some time ago. It covers all needed basics for age creation and also explains the various options of the used components (e.g. the Terrain component).

Not sure how I missed that one... Think I have just about every other page of the WIKI saved to my hard drive!

Well from what I can see I have gotten that far, my problem, currently, is how to make a room and set up collision. One thing about your tutorial, it does detail the tools in the plugin. That alone will be a great help. I think with that and Karkadann's generously donated .age file with .max resources I can figure this collision thing out, maybe tonight.

Thank you!

UPDATE!

Thanks to Karkadann's file I now know how to do simple collision using Terrain Proxies. I still do not know the rules around them, I.E. do they have to be a cube, any settings I need to give them in Max, material rules if any, etc. But I can play with that and I will.

I do not know how exact collision works however. Again I can play with it - my suspicion is that like terrain proxies you need a two-sided copy of your house. I am a little worried about how hard it may be to provide collision for complex items like spiral stairways (for example.)

Anyhow I will spend some time working and studying over the next few days and start a new thread specifically to address any questions I have about the process of adding collision, unless it is preferred I just post them here.

Man it's almost 3:00 A.M. and I know I need to sleep but I just want to play with this so bad!
