Did Blender 2.49 break the PyPRP scripts???

If you feel like you're up to the challenge of building your own Ages in Blender or 3ds Max, this is the place for you!

Well, apparently I'm still having problems with the scripts, because whenever I try to add something using the scripts menu, nothing spawns at the cursor, and my console says this:
Code: Select all
Compiled with Python version 2.6.2.
Checking for installed Python... got it!

(I should also note I started a new Blender file, tried to add a logic region, nothing happened, and this is what the console said)

What should I do now? :?

If you are not comfortable with pioneering you should probably play safe. Uninstall Blender 2.49a. Uninstall Python 2.6.2.

Install Blender 2.49 (make sure to get the version that was compiled with Python 2.5). Install Python 2.5.4 plus required libraries.

Just curious, What is the difference between Blender 2.49 and 2.49a? Where can I find the correct 2.49 installer to download? I looked on Blender.org and I see 2.49a installers but not Blender 2.49... :?

Also, Is there anything important I should back-up in my Python or Blender program files before uninstalling either of them?

:D Awesome! It worked! Thanks all! :)

One last question though (I've had this problem before Blender 2.49 was released and I figured I should ask while I have the chance)

I've been trying to save some default settings when opening up a fresh Blender file, but whenever I try to make the changes and hit CTRL-U to save the default settings, it gives me two errors within Blender near the cursor:
Code: Select all
ERROR: Unable to delete file

Code: Select all
ERROR: Failed Writing Defaults: Can't change old file. File saved with @

Anyone know what the problem here is? If I can get this fixed, I'll be all set :D

Thanks!

No write permission in the Blender folder? Default .blend file deletion protected?

I'll take on the task of removing PyCrypto references, just so the next PyPRP release will work in Blender 2.49a. But because of the imminent release, gutting the Myst V code is too ambitious, IMHO. I recommend saving that for v1.7.
Can we rebuild it? Yes, we can - here's how.

Deleting the Default .blend file in the .blender folder did the trick!

Thanks all! :D

That's great, Jamey!

On a related note: I confirmed we don't need PyCrypto for normal age exportation. I installed Blender 2.49a with Python/PIL/PyYAML/Psyco 2.6 - but not PyCrypto. And the age exported fine without errors.

So, I'll destroy the branch I made in my contrib folder. The PyCrypto removal can wait for the next release - combined with the removal of Myst V support.
